Firmware doesn't solve lens errors. that can only be solved by sending into repairs. Give them a call at 800-706-2534 and then keep choosing option 1.

How do I fix lens error problem on the described camera?

hi,
lens error occur normally when it fell or the lens shaken, if so open the camera, take the lens unit out, disassemble the lens unit, then fix it again properly. example below:

Camera lens wont open or close after being dropped. it won't turn on and take pictures

Lens error is usually caused by mechanical faults concerning lens assembly. The lens cannot extend or retract fully, the error is detected and lens error is returned.
Sometimes this can be fixed playing with the lens during extraction or retraction to help the lens asset getting back to normal.
More often the camera lens must be disassembled and re-assembled by a technician to fix the problem.

Lens wont extend, lens error restart camera

My wife's Canon SD200 got stuck with an open lens and the E18 error. I opened the case and wiggled things and still nothing. Then, I turned the camera on and started tapping the edge of the lens casing with the magnifying glass I'd been using (need the battery and memory chip in place and make sure you've transferred pictures to your computer before trying this). Voila! The lens closed. But, of course, it wouldn't open and still gave the E18 error. Well, one good tap deserved another and Voila! again. It opened. After a few more iterations - and cleaning the lens casing each time, it was back to normal. The trick is the timing of the tapping. Just after turning on the power to the camera start tapping on the lens casing - not hard - just a light tapping. And don't tap on the glass lens itself -- you don't want to really break it.

Olympus 710 lens won't open

I had the same exact issue. LISTEN UP I CAN FIX THIS. I began disassmbly and removed the outer shell of the camera (after I realized my warranty was no longer valid of course). I found that with the majority of the outer shell removed the lens opened again... Hmm I thought, Curious.

I will cut to the chase. My theory: the "waterproof seals" don't allow for an adequate change in volume within the sealed cavity when the lens is fully opened. You can see the seals going concave and convex as the camera struggles to open the lens. it can't. I am not sure why this issue develops over time. But who cares I have an easy way to fix it.

SOLUTION: Break the seal every time you open your lens. Sounds like a bad solution at first. EXCEPT you can break the seal by simply opening the DC USB port that you would normally open download you pics. So just right of the dial pop open the DC USB cover. Turn on your camera opening the lens and take as many pictures as you want. Also once the lens is out feel free to close the USB port cover to prevent water damage.

PEACE

Lens error

This may be related/helpful: My S3 in normal home use (no sand, wet or shock) just now displayed the ?Lens cover error? message, with cover only half open. Using a tooth pick I ?eased? it gently and it popped open, took a few trial pictures- fine, but would not fully close unless eased. Now will open and close slowly on own but error message blocks camera use. Then spotted cause - a loose thin sliver of silver trim from below flash around (there?s a gummy substance where it should be). When I first saw one end of this it was between the lens cover and the camera body as tho part of the mechanism, so I did not touch it. Now I know it?s jamming the lens cover operation is it OK to open the camera case to get it out? Questions: (a) Has anyone done this please? (b) Will this clear error message? Thanks.
