Hello there: The
drive motor may be defective. Many washer brands use a reversing motor.
For agitation the motor runs in one direction, for spinning and
draining, the other. It's possible for a motor to burn out in one
direction and continue to operate in the other. If this happens, you
need to replace the entire motor. The
transmission may not be shifting properly. Older washers produced by
Whirlpool and Kenmore have a transmission with an electro-mechanical shifter. If
the shifter becomes even partially defective, the unit may drain the
water but not spin. This is a complex system, if your washer has a
shifter problem, you may want to hire a qualified appliance repair
technician to repair it.The
spin bearing or basket drive may be worn or seized. These components
allow the inner tub to spin freely inside the outer tub. When this is
the problem, you usually hear a loud sound during the spin cycle. Call a
qualified appliance repair technician.
Please be gentle with me if this is obviously not the problem, but I have made the mistake of running top load washers with the door open (which the washer notices and does not turn the basket. I fixed my problem by loading the washer, adding the detergent while the washing machine was filling and then closing the door. My washer worked fine with the door closed.
Again, please be gentle with me as you rate my helpfulness. OK?
My guess, if you can hear the motor spin, is a broken drum belt. Take the top off with two screws in the back and you should see the drive belt on the top of the drum. If not, you have the answer! Good luck!
How are ya? This is kind of technical information that i'm about to give you, so if you're not that technical then you should call a service technician to diagnose. Good luck and thanks for the inquiry :)
DRIVE MOTOR TACHOMETER ERROR
If the control is unable to properly detect motor speed, the machine shuts down. If a failure occurs during high-speed spin, the door unlocks after 3 Minutes.
1. Verify the shipping system including shipping bolts, spacers and the power cord are removed. 2. Unplug washer or disconnect power. 3. Check drive motor tachometer resistance. It should be approx. 115 ohms. 4. Check wire harness connections between the drive motor and the Motor Control Unit (MCU), and between the MCU and the Central Control Unit (CCU). 5. Plug in washer or reconnect power. 6. Check the MCU by looking for operations of the drive motor. 7. Check the drive motor for powered rotations.
