Camera gives ''Device not Responding'' message ...

Hi ... I am having a problem with my HP Photosmat M525 Camera ... my camera keeps saying "device not responding" and it does not show up anywhere on my computer. I have connected it to my computer in the past the exact same way (with the USB cable) and I never had a problem before. All of a sudden, this error message is coming up on my camera. I have 'reset' the camera (taken the batteries and memory card out), put them back in and still get the same message. I have also tried resetting the camera to 'disk drive' as well as 'camera' but nothing works. The software is installed on my computer (I can access previous pictures I have downloaded to my computer in the past), but am unable to connect to my computer now. Any suggestions ??? Please help !!!
Thanks. R-

For Windows Vista, try switching the usb settings on the camera from Digital camera to Disc Drive. This converts the camera into an elaborate flash drive/sd card reader.

I also found that the usb connection on the camera may not be responding. This means that there is something wrong with camera part and it may have to be replaced. Replacing that part is not hard to do, but it is tedious because it involves taking the camera apart (removing the main circuit board from the plastic case, removing the LCD, loosing the lens from the circuit board, loosing the circuit board from the chasis of the camera to expose the mini-card circuit board that operates the AC power and usb cable. Switched this board from another camera (m425, or m525 (same board)) and reassemble the camera in the reverse order of disassembly.

My camera will not download pics on my laptop, it has every time before today, now it just says connecting? It will on my other computer?

Hi there,

Did you also turn ON the camera after you connect it to your laptop. Some camera automatically turns OFF when you connect it to the PC, you need to turn it ON in able the PC the detects for any imaging device connected.

Let me hear from you here again.

Thanks.

This is probably THE single most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

My M525 hp won,t upload

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

Devise not responding

The same thing happened to me,
turn your camera on, hold down menu/ok button, click over to the wrench tool which is called the setup menu, scroll down to USB Configuration, click on it, then scroll to disk drive and select it.
Now try turning your camera off and then back on, connect USB cord to computer and you should be all right.

Wrong format on HP M425

Just fixed this problem on a M525 camera (same physical construction).

Do a search with M525 and format.
