Red isn't working in my printer

Hi There:

I have a Canon 560 that has been a dream. No problems. All of a sudden it isn't using the red (magenta) cartridge. Printouts are totally lacking this colour. I changed the cartridge thinking that was the problem but no better.

Any suggestions?

Thanks JM

Run the printer's own Test Page to double check this; there should be a printer maintenance section in the software that came with the printer.

then run a Head Clean as well;the other colours might still have ink in them but the heads got clogged up.
I hope that helps

After changing the cartridge and performing 3 consecutive print head cleaning and the issue still persists, it is already a hardware failure and needs service.

Try another print head cleaning cycle.

Hi!!!

Most inkjet printers have an automatic cleaning program that keeps ink flowing freely through the nozzles on the print head. Some inkjet printers have a separate software program that runs this function, while others run it from the printer's Properties screen.

Open your printer's Properties screen and look for a tab labeled Maintenance, Services, or something similar. If you can't find it, look under Printer Preferences on the General tab. Figure 1 shows the Device Services screen for an HP DeskJet 5740 printer.
Some manufacturers warn against manual cleaning because it may damage the printer, but on many low-cost printers replacing a clogged print head can cost as much as buying a new printer. So what have you got to lose?

  1. Power down the printer and unplug it.
  2. Some printers include the print head as part of the replaceable ink cartridge, which means you can get a new set of clean nozzles anytime just by replacing the cartridge. On other printers the print head is a permanent part of the printer assembly, and gaining access to the nozzles may require some disassembly. Check your printer's user manual.
  3. Clean the nozzles with a lint-free swab soaked in isopropyl alcohol. You may need to let the nozzles soak a bit to loosen dried ink.

Tried to print something today after not using printer for about 3 weeks. First go all colours were present but streaky. Did the nozzle alignment but on testing found that Magenta was completely missi

Hi Mandy
1) confirm there is ink in the magenta cartridge first - by removing it from printer and looking through the ink 'window'.
If you can't see the ink level, it's either empty or very close to it. If so, replace the cartridge.
2) If ink level looks ok, install it back in printer then set out a full page of magenta (or red) background or large graphic and print few pages on high print quality setting until the magenta starts to print. This works better than printhead cleaning/deep cleaning because it wastes less ink.
3) If it still doesn't print red after 2-3 pages, the printhead is blocked. Take it out and rinse under hot water tap. Keep washing it until only clean water is coming out. Shake any water off then DRY the electrical contacts really well. Don't install a wet printhead back in printer - or you may damage it. Run one or two deep cleans and print a nozzle check. With bit of luck all colours will work now...

good luck!

When printing images from my Canon MG6150 it isn`t printing any magenta/red shades and the magenta cartridge is brand new. Every other color is printing fine. Anyone know what this problem could be? Is it...

Use the printer application to clean the cartridge and print all the test. If the test are wrong. You should change your cartridge. Maybe you have a bad store cartridge or expire one.

5510 prints green instead of red

Go to Printing preferences: select MANUAL (in color adjustment)Click Set.. , in color Balance set Magenta and Yellow to 5 or 6 . Save and print a test. If you are working with Windows XP; you need go to US Canon support website to update new driver for i-560 (File name i560xp173eus.exe/2.94MB)At this time you can set AUTO instead of MANUAL; or other driver for your current OS.
Good Luck.

Canon LBP5000 lack of Red (magenta)

Searched on web for same problem on HP2600 printer and found a sight that explained how to fix it. It is caused by the mirrors getting dirty. Magenta is the first one affected because it is on the bottom and points upwards. Requires printer to be pulled apart and mirrors cleaned. takes about 1 to 2 hours. HP2600 printer seems to be the same as Canon LBP5000.

Prints all yellow, with some blue and black, no brown

the problem is very simple the magenta ink the cartridge is over or the head is been blocked from where the magenta ink comes out,
because red colour requires ---yellow plus magenta(pink)----to make it red.and ----dark yellow plus magenta(pink) -------- for brown colour.

Canon MP 730 prints wrong color tones

I was having a similar problem-- what was happening was the print cartridge head seemed to be letting the colors leak into each other. (the science behind this is beyond me!)-- I noticed that instead of being cyan/magenta/yellow, my yellow cartridge had actually turned green, magenta was picking up blue and was turning purple, etc etc. I ended up replacing the printer's printhead and all the color cartridges and then it worked.
You can order printheads online.
Not sure if this fixes the original reason why they got all mixed up in the first place-- if the printer will continue to allow the print head to leak the colors into each other-- but hopefully that's a fixit!

Won't print red

Red is a combination of Magenta and Yellow. Print a nozzle check and observe for Magenta, Yellow and cyan. If the three colours are printed, no problem with the cartridge. Then it must be the problem of seeing colours in your monitor. .

Magenta printing as yellow

Well, first off, are the alignment, and nozzle check sheets looking good? If not, then work on that. If so, then we have a problem. Try creating a test sheet in Word. Make red, yellow blue & black text and see if anything else prints wrong. Get back to me!
