I would appreciate knowing if Gateway offers any laptops bundled with Windows XP. My problem is that Windows Vista is not compatible with my Photoshop CS2 which I use with my Gateway desktop and the cost of upgrading to Photoshop CS3,which is compatable with Vista, would exeed the cost of a laptop. What do you suggest? Please do not refer me to one of your vendors of laptops as they do not have the answer, I need to have an answer from the manufacurer, Gateway. Thank you

Incase you are a victim of counterfeit product of Microsoft then :-
Purchase a valid Windows XP cd-key online from Microsoft.
If you can produce high-quality counterfeit media, along with a proof of purchase, you can get a free replacement key from Microsoft.
Contact your reseller for redress.
Purchase Windows XP from a local OEM reseller.
Purchase Windows XP at a retail location.
Notice the word "Purchase" appears in three of those five options. There's almost no way to finagle a free cd-key out of this.
Counterfeit software can come from a number of sources. It's important to use a reputable reseller when purchasing software or PCs that come with software. And, now the good part :- Microsoft also offers several options to help victims of counterfeit software obtain a legal copy of Windows, including a complimentary offer for victims who were deceived into buying highy quality counterfeit copies
To help customers who unknowingly purchased a counterfeit version of Windows XP, Microsoft has created two genuine Windows offers for those who qualify:
Complimentary offer: Microsoft will make a complimentary copy of Windows XP available to customers who have been sold counterfeit Windows. Customers will be required to submit a proof of purchase, the counterfeit CD, and a counterfeit report with details of their purchase. Only high-quality counterfeit Windows will qualify for the complimentary offer.
Electronic License Key Offer: Microsoft will offer an alternative for customers who find out via the WGA validation process that they are not running genuine Windows, but do not qualify for, or choose not to take advantage of, the complimentary offer. These customers will be able to license a Windows Genuine Advantage Kit for Windows XP directly from Microsoft for a special on-line purchase price. The Windows Genuine Advantage Kit for Windows XP will include a new 25-character Product Key and a Windows Product Key Update tool that will allow customers to convert their counterfeit copy to genuine Windows XP electronically.
The only spyware removal service that Microsoft offers free is a Trial of OneCare or the free Windows Defender.
To self remove this, your best bet is to reboot in safe mode. To do this reboot the computer, tap F8 after your logo screen but before the windows logo screen. Select Safe mode with networking. Download www.superantispyware.com and update it. then run and see if that solves your problem.
Microsoft offers no support for their products if the product was purchased through a computer manufacturer like Dell, Acer, Gateway, Emachine, etc.
Provided that you don't have the 25 character Product Key for your Windows XP Pro SP2. My tip is to buy you a new one CD Kit Windows XP Professional SP2. Here is the link also to open some bundled Product CD keys available on the web.
If you want to change Windows XP to Vista you should check out the different Vista versions that Microsoft offers, here is a link to the different versions of VIsta that you can get and the upgrade paths you need to take - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/get/upgrade-your-pc.aspx. You wont need the Windows XP installation disk to upgrade to Vista. Let me know if you need any more assistance.
Hi, you have to use the original CD installer for WinXP that came bundled with your Compaq Presario. Reinstalling with the use of that CD will overwrite all previous installtion (from Dell) and should correctly install the drivers as well.
Should the CD be not available, you may want to try and call Microsoft Support and relay to them your problem. You may need copies of proof of purchase and other documents and/or the serial number for the WinXP normally printed on a sticker at the side, back (or underneath for a laptop) of the PC.
Another way is to purchase a CD installer of WinXP SP2 and go thru the routine of installing it.
Hiope this be of some help to you. Good luck.
