Question about HP Photosmart 3310 Printer

Hp 3310 photosmart only prints in yellow

Every since we installed a new black ink cartridge (yes, in the correct position) the printer will only print in yellow. What do we do?

Tried to find white gear. Hard to see behind the cartridges, but on left there is a white disk with teeth with a little lever I can move over it and back. Is that what you mean?

I just tried to turn it on and it began clicking again and Ink system failure message reappeared.

Hello,

On the left side of the print head carriage is a white plastic gear that drives the ink pump. Check it first to see if its firmly in place, has chipped or worn off teeth or looks damaged in some other way.

If this white gear driving the ink pump is damaged or looks odd let me know right away so we can address this issue.

Now, there is a trick for resetting your particular HP printer. This sounds and is convoluted but it will work. However, the system will think all your ink cartridges are full. If they are rather full okay. If they are near empty you will want to run this hack again as the ink nears low. You won't get a ink low warning correctly after this until you've installed new full tanks eventually.

Turn the printer on. At the same time, using your left hand, press the OK, Cancel, Black, and Color buttons down and hold them down. While holding these down buttons use your other hand to turn the printer off, still holding the four buttons down with the left hand. Once the printer has powered down fully you can release the buttons. Now, the printer will initialize and then run a maintenance check. If you printer is otherwise okay, no damaged circuitry or gearing you will be fine. Turn the printer on. It will start up and shut itself off, this is expected. Once it is off again, turn it back on once more and this time the printer will run the maintenance routine. Have paper in the feed tray.

1.) Check left side of printer carriage for the white gear that drives the ink pump. Look to see if the gear is off, broken has worn or chipped teeth.
2.) Turn the Printer On.
3.) Hold down the OK, Cancel, Black, and Color buttons with your left hand and hold them down.
4.) Use your other hand to turn the printer off. Keep your left hand on the buttons until the printer is off.
5.) Turn the printer on, wait for it to turn itself off. Have paper in the feed tray.
6.) Turn it on again and it will enter the maintenance mode. Follow any prompts during the maintenance mode, if any.

You should be back in business now. If not, try the routine again, sometimes you have to run it more than once. Should it still fail, let me know as you may get an error message and error number.

Regards,
Worldvet

Good day Steve.
The problem could be just the ink cartridge or the print head itself. Here are a few tips to try to correct this problem.
1.On the front panel of your printer, press Set up softhardware.jpg then press Tools. Choose Align Print head then press OK. Print head alignment will start. You will most probably get an alignment failed. This is already a sign of a hardware issue, in this case the print head.
Or Open HP Solution Center (click Start , click All Programs , click HP , and then click HP Solution Center ). If you have more than one All-in-One installed, make sure to select the correct All-in-One tab in HP Solution Center . Click Settings . Click Print Settings . Click Printer Toolbox . On the Device Services tab, click Clean the Print Cartridges , and then follow the onscreen instructions. Three levels of cleaning are available.
2.Manually check the ink cartridges for any leaks. Reseat each ink cartridge and clean them.
3.Perform a power reset. While the printer is on, unplug the power cable from the back of the printer. Wait for 30 seconds and then powering it back on.
Try to print and if it still the same issue, it is already a print head problem.

Won't print in black

Start the HP Printing Assistant software on your PC, and select Utilities. Run a "print-head-cleaning" operation, to unclog the ink-jets that are not spraying the black ink onto the paper.

Also, use that software to show the ink-levels of the black ink.
Maybe, the ink-cartridge is empty?

The black ink on my HP Photosmart 3310 printer does not print. All the colour cartridges print with no problems.

Black printer ink in HP Photosmart may fail to be recognized by the printer. Most times an error message will be sent indicating that something is wrong with the black print cartridge. Sometimes the printer may accept to print with the black ink, but the printouts may have horizontal lines and very illegible letters. In such a case a manual cleaning of the print head should be carried out. In doing the manual cleaning, one should spray Windex heavily on paper towel and wipe off the surface of the print head.

False empty ink cartridge message

There seemed to be a jam that was unrelated to the cartridges themselves. The print head seemed to be incorrectly shifted upward; thus the cause of the awkward noises it was making. After simply fiddling with the placement to try to physically realign it, I had the printer unplugged during this process, it seemed to snap into another position. I plugged the printer back in, powered it on, followed the reset method; hold cancel, ok, black, and color, and it was good as new. The only thing left to do was to let the printer follow through with its normal routine when reset. With the exception of an odd noise I have not been able to isolate, there is nothing further wrong with the device. All the features work just as well as they used to. I don't know if this is helpful being that other problems people encountered were faulty ink levels, but the method worked for me.

HP Photosmart 3310 All iN One Printer

Try taking out the ink cartdridge and looking at the contacts where the ink cartdridge meets te cradle, sometimes ink gunks up on the carasel and allthough you change it out, the gunk stays there and just block the new one put in. wear latex gloves when doing this, Black ink is pesky on the skin.

Also, just might want to check the printer settings and be sure it isnt set to print in greyscale.
