Suspect motor overheating and shutting down on thermal..if dryer does not have good air flow through vent to outside lint can accumilate around motor causing overheat and motor failure try cleaning around motor but i suspect it's too late damage has probably already been done

Fuel filter change did not take care of the problem car still shuts down after 20 minutes of running will not start again for about 20 minutes anyone know what the next move maybe

Have a pressure check run on your fuel pump. Sounds like fuel pump is ready to totally fail. Just had this happen on my ford expedition. And that was painful changing out fuel pump. Took 4 hours and was a dirty job too

Starts and runs for about 20 seconds then stops

Sounds like your motor is going bad, runs until it gets hot then shuts down, after a little cool down it will run again. Eventually the motor will just seize up for good. Good Luck!

What causes my dryer to stop after 20 minutes?

Sounds like a possible motor over heating. The main motor has a heat safety built in that shuts it off if it gets too hot. It will restart once it cools off some. Over heating could be from excessive lint around the motor or even from a blocked vent pipe. All you can do is clean it well and check again. If it still shuts off the motor will need replaced.

My dryer runs for about 10-20 minutes then shuts off because it must be overheating. After it cools down I can run it again. Is that an element problem?

Hi,
The cycling or operating thermostatis often the problem when a dryer runstoo hot, but there are also other things that can make it run hot also.

Here is a tip that I wrote that gives more details about why a clothes dryer will get too hot.

Electric dryer, runs for about 20 min then shuts down, can restart after a period of time, then runs about 20 min and shuts down

you have a bad motor, most likely you don't clean out the dryer, this is the number 1 killer of dryers.the vent line, the duct that the lint filter slides into and the cabinet where the motor is needs to be cleaned out if it's gas once a year, electric once every two years.all a dryer does is move air, when lint starts to build up the dryer starts to run hotter then normal from the lint build up and the dryer can't move the air as easy as when everything is cleaned out and then parts start to brake like the thermal fuse will pop from running to hot or the motor starts to over heat like yours and shuts down.when the motor gets hot the oil that's inside it leaks out, you'll see it stuck to the side wall and on the rear end of the drum with lint stuck to it.there's an overload in the motor that pops when the motor gets hot and after a while when it cools down the overload resets, that's why you can start it again after a while so basicly you have to replace the motor and clean out the dryer,if the vent line is a long run, remove it from the back of the dryer and with a leaf blower blow it out, you'll see all kinds of stuff blow out through the outside duct and clean out the duct that the lint filter goes into and the cabinet where the motor is or replace the dryer.

My dryer will run for about 20 minutes and then shut itself off. I cannot turn it back on for at least an hour as the 'done' buzzer will buzz and the dryer will not turn back on. Does anyone have any...

If it happens during the auto-drying cycle, the moisture sensor could be faulty.

If it happens during the timed cycle, the operating thermostat may be faulty. A faulty operating thermostat can fail to turn the heaters off and allow the dryer to get too hot. When this happens, the high limit thermostat will turn off the machine. After it cools down, it will start again.

After my dryer runs for about 20 minutes, gets hot, it shuts off. It will not go on again until it cools. ???

There may be insufficient air flow through the machine and the over-temperature thermostat operates shutting down operation. Vacuum out the exit hose, the outside exit vent, the lint filter area, and as far as you can reach into the machine's air passages. Wash the lint filter in detergent and hot water to remove fabric softener deposits which block air flow. Hope this helps!

Kenmore Gas Dryer Gets Hot, Shuts Off Early in Cycle

Sounds like a faulty high limit or cycling thermostat. The thermostat tells the dryer to heat until the interior of the dryer reaches a certain temp. It should be mounted on the exhause duct inside the back of the dryer. It should look something like the one in the picture:

Hope this helped and best wishes.

Shutting off every 20 minutes

Your thremal fuse is getting hot. OR There are overloads attached to the element housing and one of them is getting hot and automatically resetting itself once it is cooled.
