Try checking for a stuck "off" switch around the door or where the door latches, or could be loose wiring, Do Not open up the guts of a microwave unless you know what your doing, you can seriously hurt or even kill yourself.

SOURCE: GE microwave interior light bulb replacement.

It's pretty simple as long as you have an offset phillips screwdriver...

Of course, be sure to disconnect power to microwave and be sure not to touch the new halogen bulb with fingers.

STEP-BY-STEP:
First, remove upper vent panel and remove inner filter (same directions for just replacing inner carbon filter):
5c3b6e2.jpg 38afa6d.jpg af02b4c.jpg

Then, remove inner plastic grille (2 screws) and final screw on left side of metal "air duct" - here's where you'll need the offset screw driver (and a little patience!):

Then, you can gently lift the sheet metal panel, find the light housing, squeeze and remove/replace :)

That's it...just replace bulb and reverse for reassembly. Be sure to keep track of screw locations there are various sizes/lengths used.

Your post has two distinct model numbers shown, so it's hard to be precise, but I'll try my best.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

I have a diagram at my site which helps you find & replace many GE cooktop and cavity light bulbs. Other models are similar. It's at
http://207.234.249.73/mwd/ge_lamp_replacement.jpg

Always unplug a microwave before removing or installing any bulbs!

If it's an over the range type, remove the vent grille across the top and see if bulbs can be accessed there.

There may be a panel on the bottom covering the light(s), too.

If not, chances are you'll have to remove it from the wall, then remove the outer cover.

Many models use halogen lamps. You must not touch the new one with your bare skin, as the oils will shorten the bulb life.

If yours is an Advantium type, the following instructable should help: http://www.instructables.com/id/SZFF4WSF44XYT8X/?comments=all

SOURCE: Need new light bulb socket for GE spacemaker mircrowave

The bulbs are glued in at the factory. Unplug the microwave and see if you can remove the base of the bulb from the socket with needle nose pliers. You may have to twist the heck out of the bulb base but it should come out. If you do need a new socket it is available at www.geappliances.com under parts and accessories. Or call 1-800-626-2002 for GE factory parts

SOURCE: my GE spacesaver oven JVM230 quit, like a fuse

This is almost certainly a blown thermistor. This device is located at the air outlet on the microwave. This is a thermally sensitive resistor that cuts power if the unit overheats for safety. It can fail because of age also. Replace with the save value unit. You can get this part from electronics stores like Radio Shack.
Go to;

click on your model number. Then on the next page you can select diagrams to look at.

Change light bulb GE MOnogram Advantium Microwave oven

I have included a schematic of the interior of the built in Monogram Advantium Microwave oven Model KSC1001. The interior halogen light burned out and had to be replaced. GE service wanted $138 to come out & service it. I tried to find instructions on how to take it apart and remove the bulb & replace it on the WEB but had no luck with the Monogram series so I went to the dealer in Denver, CO and talked with their technicians and they gave me the schematic and sold me 2 bulbs for $11.00. The halogen bulbs can be purchased at Home Depot for about the same price. They are 35 watt with wide metal connectors.

Mine has 2 side trim pieces so these have to be removed first. They have latches on the top that slide behind the sides of the microwave and attach at the top. After removing the 4 screws holding the trim pieces, slide these upwards and then pull out to the sides. 2.) pull the microwave out and set it on a solid surface. 3.) there are approximately 23 screws that need to come out before you can slide & life the cover off the microwave 4.) Then look inside towards the front and left side (looking from the rear forward) for a small metal cover. There are 2 screws that hold it down. 5). Unscrew the 2 screws and gently lift the metal container up. This is the housing for the light bulb. 6.) gently pull the old bulb out and using gloves or a cloth insert the new bulb. You need to keep oils from your fingers from getting on the bulbs. The oils make the bulbs burn out quicker 7.) Put the container back and screw in the 2 screws being careful not to dislodge any wiring 8.) Slide the cover back on and replace all the screws 9.) plug it into an outlet and open the door to make sure the light works 10.) replace the microwave, plug it in and put the trim pieces back on. 11.) go to a movie with the money you just saved

On models JVM1850, JNM1851, DVM1850 and
EMO4000, replace the burned-out bulb with a 120 volt,
40-watt incandescent bulb (WB36X10003), available
from your GE supplier.

On models JVM1870, JVM1871, JVM2050 and
JVM3670, replace the burned-out bulb with a 120 volt,

GE MIcrowave model JVM1631BJ01 hood lights won't work

The part that controls that is goes through your control panel on your microwave. For the lights to come on to start with the door being closed switches have to be working right and when you press start the lights come one. When the microwave is through cooking and you open then close the door then the lights should go out. The logic IC on the control panel board that detects all these events is not being reset correctly. Unless you get a microwave tech to track down the component on the control panel circuit board it is not something that you could do on your own since it takes voltage and signal checks with the proper equipment and then some soldering and desoldering of the defective component(s). Good luck and God bless.
