Open Question

My Minolta Maxxum 3xi won't take a picture!

I just recieved a Minolta Maxxum 3xi for my birthday from my grandma, I loaded the film correctly placed a battery in it and everything.
When I go to take a picture a red lightning bolt slowly flashes and when i press the button to take a picture a yellow triangle pointing downward flashes once, but really fast. And I can't take any pictures, please help!

Look in the lens opening when it's mounted on the camera. Are there several blades visible with a small opening in the center of them?

SOURCE: where to get a Repair Service for my Minolta Maxxum 3xi?

Lens fully closed so viewfinder is dark and secondly your auto focus will not work either in this condition ( not enough light reaching the sensor at the bottom of the mirror box ). Problem is the aperture control mechanism called 'the base plate set' situated next to the mirror box in the body , which is faulty. This can be repaired but requires removing of the mirror box so that you can access the small drive which has a faulty gear and which drives the aperture mechanism. I charge +- $150 to repair this common problem.

SOURCE: Minolta MAXXUM 3xi the view finder is very dark(bought second hand)

I no the older Minolta's had an aperture problem the pictures when zooming out after they were developed were very dark. But inside and wide angel shots always came out nice I had to have the aperture base plate replaced on my Minolta Maxxum 3000i my point and shooter, I wish this helped but it sounds like something different in your case it also maybe the aperture acting different in your camera than it did in 1 of mines.

SOURCE: what size lens fits a

It depends entirely upon what you're after and the type of photography you wish to undertake.

Any Minolta AF mount lens will fit. 28mm is a standard wide angle, 50mm is a standard lens with a field of view approximately the same as the human eye, 80mm is a slight telephoto and for distant subjects 200mm is a long telephoto. Some lenses combine a few into one, they're called zoom lenses and will typically be something like 35-70mm, or 70-200mm. The measurements relate to the focal length of the lens, but generally the larger the number the longer the lens sticks out at the front. Zoom lenses are bulkier and heavier than fixed focal length lenses, but they're also the most commonly used types these days.

SOURCE: How can i change the

Okay. Just bear in mind that the exposure meter is going to be two stops off, unless you're getting the film pull-processed.

The Maxxum 3Xi unfortunately does not have a way of overriding the Camera Automatic Sensing portion of the DX encoding standard. That is, if the film cartridge has the DX encoding, the camera will set itself to the indicated speed.

However, if the film cartridge is NOT encoded, the camera will set itself to ISO 100. So, if you tape over the magnetic encoding on the cartridge...

The CAS is not the barcode on the film cartridge, but the rectangular patches of conductive and nonconductive material.

Take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DX_encoding for more information about the DX encoding.

Does the film load and picture number stay on constantly even when off.

Yes. LCDs consume so little power that there's little point in blanking it out (think about digital watches).

Rewind runs but film still seems stuck & won't rewind-Max 3xi

It could be that there is a broken or missing gear in the rewind. It will spin but not catch. Sometimes when film is loaded it, is not drawing the film across and missing a gear, so it seems like your taking photos and its not. If you sent it to minolta, good luck, they were bought out by Konica, and probably didnt' do a thorough analysis of it.

I have a friend who fixes cameras. Cleans them, lubricates them, and callibrates them,
