I have a Kenmore gas dryer purchased in 1989 which shuts off half-way through the cycle. This is a heavy duty, soft heat unit, model #110 87874800 serial #MX0816640.

Your motor is overheating and shutting off on the limit switch. You should check the vent hose, it needs thorough cleaning. Also, you must take the front panel off and vacuum the inside of the dryer and around the motor. It may be too late for the motor but you have a chance. If you have an air compressor, it is best to blow high pressure air into the motor to get thorough cleaning.
keeping the vent and inside of the dryer clean can reduce drying time by more than 50% and operating cost by as much as $20.00 per month

Wondering what year out dryer is from. The model is 76992100. The model series is 69921-79921 The serial no. is F83005027 The dryer is old, but how old? Thanks, Mary Lou Devaney, 174 Cambon Ave., St....

The model number you provided has a prefix of "110" accompanying the number. That indicates the manufacturer of this Kenmore dryer is Whirlpool. The manufacture date is determined by the SERIAL NUMBER. The following link explains:

The first two numbers in the serial number identify the WEEK it was manufactured. The second digit identifies, the YEAR. According to the information I provided, that would mean your dryer was manufactured in July of 1988. So your dryer is 21 years young.

If you have questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: These were well built appliances. The same design is used in Whirlpool appliances to this day.

The age of your appliance is determined by the SERIAL number. The following link explains:

Your Kenmore is manufactured by Whirlpool. The "110" prefix in the model number indicates this.

If I'm reading the information correctly, your washer was manufactured in January of 2002.

Kenmore 90 series model 110 60902990 wont heat blows cold air

If your dryer is running, but not heating the following link explains how to troubleshoot the problem:

Pay particular attention to the section that discusses dryer ventilation. The number one cause of dryer failures is poor ventilation. Without proper air flow the dryer will overheat to the point of failure. Most commonly the Thermal Cut-Out fails.

Another source of this problem comes from improper input voltage at the wall recepatacle. The dryer drive motor only uses a portion of this voltage and runs off 110-120VAC, while the heating circuits require the full 220-240VAC. Some people have their dryer circuit on a double breaker. If yours is configured this way, double check to make sure one of the breakers is not tripped. This will give the same symptoms that you describe.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you solve your problem.

Want to know if 110 V or 220 V

All electric dryers built for the US are 240 VAC, and gas dryers are 120 VAC.
