Question about Sony GDM-W900 24" CRT Monitor
Not every time, but frequently, the screen will become blurry shortly after turning it on or having it recover from standby. This will last for 10 minutes or sometimes significantly longer, until the monitor loudly "pops" and all is crystal clear again.
I'm not sure what the specifics of the problem are, but I know of another person with the same monitor having the same problem. Secondly, even if I can identify the problem, I'm running into difficulty finding ANYONE who repairs CRT's in KC. I'm tired of the line "they aren't worth fixing" as this monitor is still state of the art for a CRT, has benefits in adjustable resolution, color, and video over LCD, and just 5 years ago was running between $1450-1800.
Help me save my CRT!!!
CRT shorts are common with this model and focus problems are a major symptom. however, the loud 'pop' you described leads me to believe that the flyback transformer may have a problem in the focus divider portion. replace the flyback, if that fails then the CRT is most certainly the problem
