Question about Panasonic DMRES15 DVD Recorder

Open Question

Panasonic DMR-ES15 off of service

I have a Panasonic DMR-ES15 DVD recorder from february 2007. I recorded a DVD and when recording a second one it stopped and it does not worked anymore. When I power on the unit, it makes 3 chirps and a final acute chirp. If I insert a DVD it says that it can not read the disk (please insert a good or readable disk...). Normally, if one press the "Functions" button, a menu with three options are displayed. Now, the second function in the list has disappeared, so I can not access to that options. I found in internet that the unit can be reseted to restore the working configuration. Is it true? How this can be done? Thank you very much for your help.

Good description, the series of chirps! I've had mine for a couple of years and then yesterday it did the exact thing you're talking about. Now it won't read anything.

Same exact thing happens with me. The chirps seem like the sound of the DVD trying to spin--but it can't start up. It's a mechanical kind of jolting sound. It won't read any discs (recordable or professionally made DVDs).

This started RIGHT AFTER I had gotten done finalizing a DVD. I had been recording DVDs for 5 or so hours before this point, so I figured it maybe got hot. When I inserted a new disc, the panel showed some kind of error code. I read in the manual that different codes can mean different things (the unit is overheating, the lens is dirty, etc.) and that you should allow it to go through its "restoration process." I thought it was trying to correct a faulty disc, so I turned off the recorder, figuring I would just put a new one in. Once I turned it back on it started making these sounds, and it hasn't been able to read any disc since.

error code u61 appears. will not play, record and the tuner is a mess. google error code and this seems to be a major problem. Panasonic will not admit to this problem. Worked good for 18mths.

SOURCE: Can't Finalize a disk on Panasonic DMR-EH60 DVD Recorder

It sounds like you haven't selected DVD first. When dubbing to DVD, you need to do this in HDD mode. When finalizing, you need to be in DVD mode for the finalizing options to come up.

SOURCE: Problem with Panasonic DVD Recorder DMR-ES15

With a soft cloth, clean the 'hole' area of a DVD that you know worked in the past. Sometimes oils from our fingers get on the disc and then the disk can't spin properly. If the problem persists, open the case and look for two failed capacitors. (See similar solutions on this website.)

DMR-ES15 Stops after 45 Min.

U88 means the unit has detected an error while recording or playing and has entered its recovery process to restore the unit to normal operation. You could try using a DVD-RAM disk or a different make of DVD-R but, as you say the unit is new, you should probably return it to the retailer for exchamge, repair or refund according to unit age and retailer's return policy.

My DMR-ES15, dvd recorder is showing a U-61 code, I'd done all the instructions on my user manual. I think the problem is lost of memory. How can I get it back working. If I have to change chip of memory what is the part No., and how much will cost me in US dollars. Thanking you in advance.

Panasonic DMR ES15, cannot record coywrighted vhs tapes onto dvd.

Try this:

If you have another VCR system (Master) you can connect it from the master to the Panasonic DMR ES15 (slave). Insert the copyrighted tape onto the master VCR system and insert a empty VHS tape on the slave system. In the slave, record from the master. When done, you can record from the videotape you have made from the master tape, to the DVD recorder.

If you still have problems, please contact the manufacturer of this model.
