Why wont my tv restart after power outage?

Most likely cause is when power came back on a surge damaged something in the main power supply---if total dead with no lights or anything follow power cord inside the set to the plug in fuse that has to be there.

Some general info=

I see so many here with no sound/nopicture issues:

ISSUES:

1. IF sound main fuse/s are good.
2. If no power or standby check main fuse, standby power supply and any signsof damage you can see---burnt parts etc.
3. almost all these sets the troubleshooting involves checking voltages on the main power board to narrow down theproblem.
4. Be safe and if you do not know what you are doing don't open the set.

Answers to issues:

1. RE:fuses---if a blown fuse is found get a good replacement(not the genericones like Radio Shack). Many fuses are special even aside from amperage--Don'tput a higher rated amperage fuse in the set for any reason.

2. RE: power supply in set: if total dead aside from main fuse the set uses astandby power supply that runs 7/24 and a main supply (some are combined andsome not.

Here aside from checking fuses you want to examine all the filter caps on thepower/standby to see if any are puffed up or buldged up in some fashion--Iattach a photo of a good one---top should be silver metal and PERFECTLY flatand have no brown material coming out on top or bottom.

What happens in the standby area is they use caps with too low a voltage rating(saves money) which causes them to fail in a year or two---the standby runs7/24 and the heat dries out the caps and they fail.

3. Trouble shooting consists of the above and then at some point you have to buyand try a board to see if it fixes it or not.

4. Safety first--no TV set is worth getting injured or even killed over.If set is opened at least look for puffed up and bad caps like in thisphoto.

We had a power blackout and now my LC42LC2DR will not come on... could it be fuses and where are they or something else...?

They dont normaly blow a fuse these things are something that happen quit often because a tv stays on all the time even when you turn it off from the remote what seems to happen is that the power supply unit inside the tv dont get used much and it is a very common problem for the power supply unit to stop working but it is the inconveinence of not having the tv working as you will need to send it off or get a tv service tech to come out and in most of these cases you can often claim this on insurances through the power company just keep note of the time and day it happened and they will have a record of any power surges in your area they never tell you but they do in most cases will see what they can do but make sure it is pluged in turned on and then turn on any switches that may be on the tv and then turn on from the remote and see if you get anything and try go through the av channels hope it helps and next time you have any tv it is good to turn off every know and then to just keep the power supply in working mode.

No power... Can it be the fuses? how do the fuse look when it blew?

Hi wrensch511,

Here are some basic steps that will help you fixing the problem.

I'm assuming that your unit is dead set without an standby LED light and your outlet is live.1.Power cord - check the cord it might be opened (no continuity). This is due to frequent bending, pulling. 2. Power switch - check for dry joints, open contact. 3.Check the internal fuse- sometimes the fuse fail because of the power surge, replacing with new one will cure the problem, If this is the case I would advice you to use surge protector/AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator). However if the fuse blew again this is an indication that you have a shorted parts in the power supply, you may visit the linkhttp://www.fixya.com/support/r8053361-fuse_keeps_blowing for more info. If no reaction and still the unit didn't power up then you have an open parts on the power supply.

4.If you see that the fuse is intact , don't attempt to touch anything because there some fatalcomponents stored electricity enough to hurt you with a simple mistake only. I would advice you to look for a professional to troubleshoot the power supply. If you want to repair it yourself make sure that you have necessary tools and test instrument. First check bad solder joints(re-solder all cold solder), leaky electrolytic capacitor(sometimes it has bulged at the top but not all, you better have a capacitor checker), open/shorted regulator transistor/IC(mounted in heat sink), open fusible resistor (caused by shorted regulator Transistor/IC), shorted zener diode.

You may also replace the power supply board, try online http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=LG+42PC3D&_sacat=0&_odkw=d038+transistor&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313

Also check if your unit is under warranty before opening the back panel, it will void the warranty. Avail it because the manufacturer of your unit will fix it for free or a little charge only.

Hope I helped you.

Have a nice day!

Thanks for using fixya.

Toshiba 22LV505 TV-DVD:

Check the DC filter caps in the power supply first. Check the 24vdc (or 18vdc for this 22" model) to see if it goes away when the screen goes black.
There are main AC fuse, backlight inverter fuses, T-CON fuses.
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:

Hitatchi tv problem

A fuse has probably blown inside the TV, I had something similar with a panasonic TV a number of years ago. Open the back up and use a continuity tester across your fuses till you find the right one...................dont forget to unplug it first !!

Sounds like a power issue with the unit you will have to call the customer suppport line and have them refer you to an authorized dealer or send it back to them.
