Question about Sony KP-51WS510 51" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

KP51WS520 will not turn on. Light blinks 9 times.

Can you explain to me what might be the problem and how to begin to fix this problem. Is there a service manual that will show diagrams of the various boards, which ones to diagnose and which parts to replace? Also, where can I purchase replacement parts? Thanks in advance for all your help.

Hi there...
let me see if I can help u out, but before u try anything, be careful not turn or remove un necessary wires, if u do, document them and also this set operates at high voltages. If u are confident enough, then go ahead and check the following.
First of all the 9 blink is ZCD fault located probabply on G Board. I believe it will be at the left most side of the set. when U are looking from behind the set once the back cover is removed u can see 3 boards on the main bracket assy. from ur left is G board then D board and the A board.
To make it easier for u just look at the power code connected board, that will be the G Board
On this board u'll find 4 pin connector labelled CN6012. The pin no. 4 is the ZERO_DET. pin.
Check the associated circuit connected to this pin. Mainly there will be two diodes that will create such a fault. They D6116 and D6301.
Post back after checking this area

Sony KP51WS520- stand by light flashes 9 times and won't turn on. Have unpluged for 4 hours, still won't turn on.

Unplug the tv, take the back off, locate the G board, next look for D 6301,and D 6116,these are diodes, desolder them and replace them,if that didnot fix it,then change the switching regulator also, its also on G board..use a desoldering iron to remove parts, then wick wire to get the access solder off the pin holes to resolder parts.hope this helps.....

TV won't turn on

There's a small diode on the power supply board that causes this. Its identifiable by its purple stripe. You will need the correct type of diode to fix this properly. The diode supplies the standby voltage to the system control circuit, so when it fails, the TV will never come on.

Trouble code: Standby LED blinks 9 times

Try pushing the buttons on the remote and let me know what comes up on the screen if anything.
Display, Channel, 5, Vol Minus, ( Not plus ) then Power. This brings up
a screen with a list of the problems and number of times they have occurred.
Each of the problem names is abbreviated as, "OCP", "OVP", "V STOP", ETC.
We have repeated them in parentheses in the text for the "Blinks" described
above so you can correlate between the diagnostic screen and the blink
codes.
