GoVideo VR3930 won't recognize DVD that plays fine on another device. Thought lens might be dirty, got laser cleaner, but won't recognize that either.

Why is this posted in Projection Television? Should have been in DVD/VCR Combo recorder.
I need more info than this solution. But thanks anyway.

The unit plays most commercial DVDs but sometimes sticks and won't allow me to see the rest even if I try by chapter. Occasionally it also says a DVD is unrecognizable. What makes it say a disk is unrecognizable? I understand that the "sticking" is probably due to a dirty lens/laser since I'm very careful to clean the frequently dirty rental DVDs. It's frustrating. Best Buy offered to "take a look" for $150, but I can buy a new one for $160 at Walmart. CAN THIS MACHINE BE FIXED SHORT OF REPLACING THE LENS.

I'd repair it myself if I could, but it sounds like it's beyond my ability. It still plays some DVDs, but says the cleaning disk is unrecognizable. Anyhow, I appreciate the information.

In the dvd player.there is a small and thin glass eye which reads the discs which you insert in the player.if there is dirt externally you can get it cleaned by inserting the lens cleaning cd in the player and it cleans the lens and player starts working again.but if the lens is dirty internally the lens cleaner cannot clean that dirt .and to clean the lens internally it is quite necessary to open the device and clean the lens gently and refit it again.but if there is dirt from long time on the lens and if it is destroying the lens by poking on the thin glass of the lens, then the rashes starts to come on the lens.and if the rashes r there on the lens.cleaning the lens will not help.and then the replacement of the lens is necessary.and removing the lens and replacing the lens it not a easy job.as it has some exact allignment when you fit the lens if it is slightly extra towards the left or right side or little bit not adjusted from the up down position it will still not detect the discs with the new lens also.so get it replaced with a professional technician.1 thing is sure that lens problem is quite costly but it is 100%repairable.if done with proper care . thanks.

DVD's will not play in Thomson DVD player, the machines states that they are not compatible. CDs play perfectly.

Hello,

it a lens problem. The lens of your DVD player is weak such that it cannot play DVD plates but still have the ability to play CDs.

Also maybe the DVD plate is not compatible for real. In that case try a lot of different DVD plates on it and see if any will play.

If its a lens problem, then you need to get a lens cleaner to clean the lens.

All the best.

My lg DVD player model rc199h will only play one home made dvd. It will not play the dvd's that we purchased, rent or even the instructional one that came with the unit.

Hi try cleaning the lens.
If the lens is dirty or opaque, the player may read only few media types, for example only recorded DVD-R .
You can first try cleaning the lens with a Cleaner Disk. If that does not work clean the lens with isopropyl alcohol and cotton stubs. Disconnect power and remove top cover to clean the lens directly. Be careful because if you put too much strength and displace the lens pickup you may make things worse.

If all that does not work, the lens pickup must be replaced.

Teac lcd tv / dvd combo modle lcdv1501m the problem is it will not play dvd it plays cd ok every else seem fine could you give me some ideas please

Hi,

Initially, pls try using a CD lens cleaner similar to those used in computer CD ROMs. it is normally readily available from most computer shoppes. The idea is to clean the laser pickup/eye/lens. Should cleaning be not corrective, it may be necessary to open the unit for a look & see or manual cleaning the insides.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

I have the 1513-tdxb polaroid tv dvd combo. the dvd wont load. ive changed the batteries in the remote, but it still wont work.

1. Purchase or borrow a lens cleaner disc and try it first. You can find these things really cheap at any large department store. They usually get the job done well. However, you may need to clean the lens manually if the store-bought cleaner fails.

2. Remove the outer casing of the DVD player. Remove the screws that mount the top casing onto the bottom of the DVD player and slide the top casing off. This will expose the DVD deck, which houses the laser pickup lens.

3. Find the lens. The lens will be glass and under the DVD clamp. The lens will probably have a blue tint to it. If you are having trouble finding the lens, you could shine a light on the components and watch for the reflection.

4. Use a cotton swab and some isopropyl alcohol to gently wipe the lens. Just a quick scrub will do. Dry the laser pickup lens with the other end of the swab.

5. Give the lens a few seconds to dry and replace the covering of the DVD player. Test the efficiency of the player. If necessary, repeat the process.

Let me know if this doesn't work and we can try other options to get it working.

Thank you for using Fixya and Good luck.

The DVD player in my 24" Toshiba Combo DVD/VCR TV is working intermittedly. It plays fine for a about 30 minutes ... then it stalls for a few seconds, starts again, stalls, starts again, stalls until...

This can be either a dirty lens or the optics starting to fail. On very rare occasions it is the digital processing section. Try opening up the unit and cleaning the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. If that failes to correct the problem, try playing a music CD. If the CD plays OK, I'd suspect that the optics are starting to fail. Reading a CD takes a lot less laser power than a CD.
Keep us posted.
