I have an optoma EP771 that powers up, shows image and then shuts off. It then blinks the error code for Ballast UART error. The power supply seems good. Not sure if this is a ballast or main board issue. What should I look for? Should I try to order the ballast. Nobody seems to know what this error actually means.
Same thing happened to me. After one minute of running, lamp shuts off and 5 power led blinks and 3 ready led blinks, indicate UART ballast error. Well, I purchased a new lamp, and installed it, and the problem was gone. I looked closely at my old lamp, and it showed a little blister inside, and a tiny spot of white residue, perhaps it was the whole problem there, although I don

5 blinks of the standby led lights is an error code for no high voltage coming from the ballast board.
You have to check first if the supply voltage from the power supply is present feeding the ballast board. If yes, you have to replaced the ballast board. High chance that the fault came from it but you need to confirm it by the presence of the voltage from the power supply.
Hope I helped you.

3 blinking led light at the front panel is an error code for lamp malfunction. If you've already replaced the bulb and yet the symptoms remain the same, then high chance that the fault came from the ballast board because the supply voltage is present.
Confirm if the bulb will lit upon powering on the unit. Open the lamp cover, bypass the lamp cover switch by putting tape to make it in closed position (making it still the lamp cover is attached to the housing) and then power on the unit. Check if the bulb will ignite or will light up, if not, you have to replaced the ballast board.

If the bulb did not fix it then it is probably the ballast that has gone out or the power supply board has failed. I usually replaced the ballast and power supply together. You can call 1-800-samsung or search online for the parts.
MIne did the same thing, thought it was the lamp, bought a new one....still did it, figured it wasn't the ballast because the light came on for about 3-5 seconds - was told the ballast was bad, the ballast supplies high power to the lamp - if it is weak, it will not supply enough power and lamp shuts down. Bought a new ballast on Amazon for $62.00 - problem solved. I also tried a cooling fan - NOT the problem, was the ballast
Hello. 5 blinks mean that lamp-ballast duo have a problem. Ballast (power supply for lamp) could go bad if you abuse it with older lamp by not replacing lamp when image become darker. You have to replace lamp first. If problem would not go away - then next step is to check and replace ballast. It have to be done by skillful technician who suppose to check +5V trigger voltage supplied to the ballast before making decision to replace it. Good luck! Russ.
This is the shutdown code for the lamp ballast. I would have a technician verify ballast is bad and replace. This can be a tricky repair for a novice because installation of the ballast requires that you remove the light engine. Hope this helps.
My too, same problem - tried replacing lamp ($150), no luck, replaced
ballast ($200) no luck, replaced power supply ($150) no luck and TSC is
telling me to replace the main engine ($600) - way too much for this
piece of junk (cost me $4000 in 2005) - don't buy optoma products!!!
cutta, you will most often hear a click on boot then the fans start up and lamp will then fire. The picture will start to show up....at what point does it shut off? and do you hear a click when the tv is turning off? Is it the complete tv shutting down, fans and everything that turns off? Do you see any lights on the the front panel "POWER", "STATUS" or "LAMP", what are they doing?
If you see a Power, Status or Lamp light after it shuts off the below are what they mean if there is an issue.
POWER - STATUS - LAMP - CONDITION/ISSUE:
Off - Yellow - Off - Temp. high/dirty filter/excess room temp
Off - Off - Yellow - 4000 hrs. Lamp usage warning
Off - Off - Blink Yellow - Lamp Cover open
Off - Blink Yellow - Off - Air Filter Cover open
Off - Off - Red - Lamp failure (failed to turn On or broken)
Off - Blink Red - Off - Fan Has Stopped
Off - Red - Off - Circuit failure (short) or DVI cable disconnected
If you want to check for the last "Error Code", after you first turn the TV on, by pressing the front panel ?DEVICE? and ?MENU? buttons at the same time and holding them for 5 seconds, it activates the Error Code Mode.
The ?Power LED Light? blinks/flashes (1/2 sec delay) and then flashes again denoting a two digit Error Code indicating no problem or an error has occured since the last Initalization. i.e. "Power light" blinks 3 times (1/2 second delay) and then blinks 4 times then 1 sec delay and repeats a few times. This would mean "Error 34 - Lamp abnormality". See below for error codes.....
Error Code - Description or issue
12 - No Error detected, check Power Supply
32 - Lamp Cover is open
33 - Air Filter Cover is open
34 - Lamp abnormality
36 - Light Engine (DMD or LAMP Fan stopped)
37 - Exhaust or Lamp Ballast Fan stopped
38 - Lamp temperature high
39 - DMD temperature high
41 - Short is detected
44 - DVI cable between FMT & Engine disconnected.
Sorry for the long answer but it was an open ended question.
