Given the fact that when you key up the mic you should not hear any thing because the receiver section is "turned off" (no antenna and the speaker is muted). This would seem to indicate that the switch the headset controls which allow the change over from RX to Tx is bad or that the circuit in the CB unit which the head set plugs into is having a problem. Do you hear the same flutter without the headset? Try to get another headset or test one out just to see if the problem is eliminated by using a known good headset.

You have a bad detector in the radio. Needs serviced. Change the bad detector diode and it should work. Good Luck

Hi Frank, It sounds to me like you may have a bad dectector diode. Other possibilities are cold solder joints in the stand up boards in the IF section. Good Luck

Where can I get a DC power cord for a Midland 75-779 handheld CB radio please?

Edited question for clarity.

The Midland chargers are in this link. Different models so check the voltage before purchasing. There should be a sticker on the back of the set.

Midland 75 785 noise problem

change channels maybe it will go away. How is you power hooked up? does it go to the fuse box ,cigarette lighter or directly to the battery? Try hooking the power up differently .If that doesn't work try asking a friend to hook it up in their vehicle to see if it still does it. once you find the problem then install it. Could the nb/anl switch be in the off position ? Good luck.

Transmitting problem on motorcycle

  • Make sure you run the CB directly to the battery. What you are hearing is the alternator whining. Even then sometimes a low pass filter may be necessary. Make sure the chassis of your CB is grounded with a copper braid strap too.

  • Hope this helps.

How far can that midland 1001z radio transmit. And recieve.

Running most any regular cb, including this one barefoot (with no kicker), having a good antenna, set up with a good ground plane or a no-goundplane antenna, good coax; basically everything in good working order, you can usually bank on about 4 to 5 miles crisp and clear, and at least 6 to 10 miles fairly clear. Of course the further out you get it will start to fade out.

Some radios do better than others, but those are the general numbers I have seen in my years of experience.
