No display on acer 5100

I have a Acer Aspire 5100 which is not showing video. I had it running lastnight fine and i blacked out the screen and when i went to use it again no display. I powered off with the power switched and when i restarted it there is no display . I get a beep code of 1 long and 2 short beeps . The computer is running but no display. I tried hooking it up to an external monitor but no luck. Can somebody please help me , i know i did nothing wrong and it worked fine everyday over the last year and a half. I tried unpluging it pulling the battery and draining the remaining power by pushing the power switch while battery and plug are out , i tried each of the 2 ram chips . I don't know what else to do.

I have tried an exteral monitor with no luck, all who i have asked here locally have not heard of this happening too often as the computer is only 1 1/2 years old and was working fine right up untill 6 hours before this . I have taken it to a shop today to have a diagnostics done on it . I hope the news is not bad as i have gotten enough of that this past while as my father has almost died from a heart attack. Wish me luck people and if you have any ideas please send them my way . Also if anybody has a AMD DURON 1300 CPU , Socket A that they ae not using i could use one my daughters wants to fix her computer by replacing the cpu that went bad on her, i told her i would try to find one for her. Thanks all .

Try flipping the function key like function 6 or something it's the 2 sort of rounded square button on the keyboard. If your monitor wont display the one beep followed by 2 beeps usually means you blew the backlight or the video card has fried. Try plugging it into a external montior and doing this. Can you see the display if you shine a light to the screen, if you see nothing you blew the video card or the connection to the video card is loose or the connection to the lcd.

Hi,

the Acer Aspire 5100 notebook has a VGA port which you can connect to any VGA monitor which will allow you to see what the laptop is trying to display allowing you to troubleshoot the issue.

if you have power it's not the power supply. It sound like the screen maybe gone on your laptop. Have tried hooking up a monitor to your laptop to see if the screen will come up?

The bios beep codes indicate the video card is not working, so you won't see anything on the screen.

Your video card is either dead, or is not contacting the board correctly.
If you are keen to open it up I will offer instructions to assist you. But in reality, your safest bet is to take it to a laptop shop and get them to do it. There are a lot of tiny screws in these things.

be certain it is not the video card connect it to an external monitor and test,
and reseat the video connector from the panel to the card.
look for bent connectors too.

Welcome to Vista. Windows Vista is automatically set up to power down after you have left it alone for too long. If you press the power button everything should be fine. Otherwise tell me what happens.
