Has this printer ever worked before? Is it a new printer for you? Did you install the printer drivers before connecting it to your pc? If not, disconnect the printer cable from your computer. If you have the driver on a disk, then insert the disk and follow the instructions on installing the driver then reconnect the printer cable and try a test page. If you have already installed the driver and the printer is not printing, check to see if there are unprinted documents in the print que. To do this, click on the arrow next to the clock in the lower right side of your screen. Find the icon or picture of the printer and right click with the button on the right side of your mouse on top on that picture and choose open all printers. When the que opens, look for unprinted documents in this area and click on them and erase or delete them until there are none left and then close the que. Try printing again. If your printer still does not print, remove the printer from your pc and reinstall it. You can do that by disconnecting the cable from the printer to your pc and then go to your control panel, look for printers and open it, then find the name of your printer and click on it and delete it. Make sure you install the driver before connecting the printer to your pc.
When you go to scan and the power light flashes, that tells you your
computer IS communicating with the printer, however it may not be a
good connection. Below i described that more. If the connection is
indeed fine, and you tried a second pc or re-installed software
completely, then I would have to say the printer is dead to you. (ie. a
chip on a logic board has failed). Please continue below.
Software may be at fault. Can you print a demo page on the printer? Generally it can be done without a computer connected even, just hold any large buttons on the front of the printer for a few seconds, lights should start flashing, and a test print should print. I bet it will, because you said it "copies without a gripe."
IF that works, maybe you can completely un-install the printer software from Add/Remove Programs, or you can install it on a second computer?
IF that does not make a difference, try a new USB cable if you can. OR See if the USB port on the back of the printer appears loose. Are you able to hold it upwards or downwards or move it around at an angle? You could print another page, and quickly hold the cable in, and pushed up at an angle, or pushed IN-AND-DOWN at an angle.
IF that can be confirmed, you would need a $1 store soldering iron and would have to take the printer apart, and heat-up the connections between the USB port and the logic board. Possibly need $3 of solder from radio shack or what not. Hope I
It doesn't have inks, it has black toner only.
If it was previously printing, did the TONER lamp light up, suggesting it had exhausted? Maybe it ceased printing for some other reason. Is anything flashing, and might it reset if powered off and back on?
You can print a test page from it without computer input, by pressing the GO button 3 times. If that prints, you may have software problems on the computer. Uninstall the printer, and reinstall the drivers.
If that doesn't work, have you checked the connecting cable?
You shall immediately disconnect your printer from your laptop. Uninstall your software once more. Install your software without connecting printer to your laptop. If software asks to connect then only connect the software or else just restart your laptop. Now connect your printer. It will automatically install your software. You are ready for printing.
