Simple, under warenty, take it back.

Great advice Game Monkey, yet, if your system is still under warenty, it will be a free fix. If not, you can put in for an out of warrenty repair. I have done this myself, and for only $105.00 US They basicaly sent me a brand new system. Yes, it seems pricey, but when you get your system back from Sony, it will again be under a waranty!

it means the disck reader needs a new one, you would be able to play a demo but nothing from disc or maybe for 5 mins then it would shut down on you, i suggest the best thing if its under warenty to send it to Sony, they will replace it for free at thier cost.

you could try to pull out the harddrive and format it on your computer then place it back into the ps3 and the ps3 will think its a new hdd and start a fresh install to the hdd that would fix the problem only down fall is that you loose your saves. If this helped please vote and be fair

when the system is powered on hold the power button down until you hear it beep twice, I am unsure if this is what you were talking about or not but it should reset the system to factory settings

clean the cd reader with a cd cleaner it might help or if it's under warenty send it back

if the ps3 wont read DISC games the BD drive in the ps3 is bad and needs to be replaced. I would suggest you call Sony and have them replace the drive if the ps3 is still under warranty.

since the BD discs are read only and nothing is stored on them like game saves, your son wont lose any saves he has becasue they are stored on the ps3 hard drive.

i would suggest if you do send the console to sony i would back up the contents of the drive just incase they decide to wipe it clean.

you can perform a backup from the setting menus on the ps3.

Unfortunately this is typically due to a fault in the PS3 - most likely a problem with the Blu-Ray drive. Sony should send you a box to mail it to them and then it can be repaired if you are still under warranty.

Hi there,

PS3 has alot of problems with the laser, if it is still in warrenty please send it back to sony, otherwise you can buy a new laser of ebay, and it comes with fitting instrustions.

hi!it looks like there is a problem with the laser mechanism which is now quite common problem,if its in warranty please call sony and request for a replacement..they should be able to help you..i had the same problem and my ps3 stopped playing any disc,i got it the mechanism replaced(no service for ps3 in India sadly)hope it helps!
