Question about AT&T 5830 Telephone
I have to pick the phone up while someone is on the phone and re-hang it up so the beeping stops.
Please help how to fix.
You should turn off the "Hold Reminder" under phone settings. Get to this by pressing the silver enter button and scrolling down.

Verizon is right, it's out of their hands. You may have a defective unit or it may be sharing the line with other equipment that is fooling the phone in thinking the call is still there. Or, you may have DSL on the line and it may not be filtered.
You'll have to start by eliminating other devices from the line, fax, computer, credit card machine etc. Now try the auto attendant voice mail. Add those devices back and check each time.

The filters are causing the problem. I ran into this same issue with a client. Once I removed the filter the hold function worked fine. It seems the DSL filter also filters out the frequency that the phones use to communicate with each other.

SOURCE: I've got an AT&T model
That beeping is letting you know know that the batteries are low or out. There's a compartment under the phone that holds four AA batteries. Open it and replace the batteries or put in fresh ones. The beeping will stop.
