Assuming that both freezer and refrigerator temperatures have risen and the humming sound that you heard was followed by a sudden click more than likely the start device on the compressor has gone bad. This is a common problem with all Whirlpool refrigerators (KitchenAid is Whirlpools top of the line product and suffers the same problem).

SOURCE: Hot door frame ( Whirlpool side by side door frig )

The mullion frame stays warm to eliminate sweating during the heat season. This is accomplished by routing the heat removed from the unit by the freon through tubing behind the mullion strip(s). Generally this is experienced as "warm". However, if the unit runs longer than normal in an attempt to pull heat out of the box to satisfy the cold control, these mullions will be HOT to the touch. Basically this serves as an alarm to alert you to a circulation problem. You describe a fan at the bottom right rear as "not working"?
I attempted to locate an answer to resolve the issue for you, but you have not provided me with enough information to access my service database.
Tip: Always provide the complete information provided on the manufacturers product information data tag, located on the unit, and not in the user’s manual. This will help you acquire a more accurate and expeditious response to your complaint.
Below is a link that will help you with parts and diagnostic procedures that are specifically tuned to your manufacturers data plate information.

SOURCE: FRIG. NOT GETTING COLD

Switch off the fridge immediately and allow the compressor to cool off. It is possible that the defrost element is not working, causing a build up of ice in the freezer side. But this should not cause the compressor to overload. The compressor thumping and then stopping can be caused by low voltage supply or a blockage in the refrigerant system

Frig or freeser not cold

If it is your freezer, check to make sure that the air vents inside the freezer are not blocked by food. Putting too much food in an blocking the air vents will prevent the freezer from freezing. Air needs to circulate inside the freezer for it to work properly. This can also cause excess freezer ice collecting on freezer or in foods. Dust and lint will collect under and behind a frig. Pull the frig out from the wall, unplug it. Check for lint under and on the back of it. If it has accumulated some, vacuum it all off and plug it back in and wait a while to see if it gets cold. The fan pulls lint and dust under the frig and it stops the cooling system. If this doesn't work, it may need the freon (can't spell it correctly) stuff replaced. If these don't work, you need to call

Freezer is very cold but main frig is not cold at all, we defrosted cleaned all ice built up under plate in freezer and still warm

did you check freezer fan behind the freezer? If not working check the wiring for it. If broken fan replace it. Find no leak in door gasket. Temp setting must be at least 5 degree.Thanks.

WHAT WOULD BE THE MOST LIKELY PROBLEM IF THE FRIG DOES NOT GET COLD, IT IS ONLY 2YRS OLD, THE FREEZER WORKS, BUT THE FRIG DOES NOT GET COLD AT ALL. IT IS A WHIRLPOOL

  1. Is this an automatic defrost unit?
  2. If so, is there frost in the freezer?
  3. If so, check the defrost timer. If it is not working, frost forms on the fins of the evaporator and blocks cold air to the fridge.
  4. You can check the timer by first of course locating it then with the fridge on, turn the little ring in its center slowly until you hear a click. The freezer fan should go off. Wait around 30 or so and it should come back on.
  5. If it does not, the timer is bad. If it does then check the evaporator fan.

I have a 21 cubic refrigerator with ice maker. its only 3 years old. just 3 days ago, the refrigerator section stop getting cold. but the freezer still works. i checked out the back of the frig to the...

Inside the freezer, at the back is another fan that circulates cold air from the freeze through out the fridge. Make sure it's running. Sometimes the blade will slip on the shaft and get jammed, or the motor could be defective.

Whirlpool et18gk freezer working frige not

Since we know the machine is producing cold, that is a plus. The cold is created in the freezer. From here, a fan moves it through vents into the frig. From the frig it goes back into the freezer and makes a big loop.

What you probably have here is a motor to the fan in the freezer gone out. If you want to fix it yourself I'd be happy to tell you how. If you want to know if it's worth fixing, I would say most definitely. I would expect $40-$80 for the fan motor then labor on top of that. The fan part number is 2315539.You should be able to order the part anywhere that sells appliance parts by that number with no problem at all.

Frig doesn't cool. Freezer works fine. freezer

You have solved your problem :D You need to get that fan blowing. The vast majority of the time that is all you need. Other times, there can be another part controlling the operation of the fan (ADC - Adaptive Defrost Control). Post the model number and I will see if you have one of these ADCs in your appliance :D
