My on off switch on HP tower is problematic

I have a Media Center HP PC m7170n unit - and the on off button in the morning is causing me problems. I talked to hp - got rid of a lot of programs that were trying to open up at the same time thinking this is what was causing the issue - so did a clean up.

But this morning still the same problem - so I think it's the on off button of the computer that is the problem. It takes about 4 times before it starts up - it will turn on and go to the blue screen and stop it just sits there - nothing is turning or churning so to speak. I hope this makes sense appreciate any insight - or suggestions - are we at the end of something or are we just at a point of having to replace this puppy. The unit is about 2-3 years old - can't remember exactly whenI bought it. probably closer to three years old now.

Try defraging your hard drive. This takes a while when using windows defrager. There is softare you can get that is a lot faster. I have one but they don't have the free one anymore. Of course you can do it while you sleep.

It sounds like you have a hardware failure more than likely it is your motherboard and possibly your ram that have to be replaced. Life expectancy for almost all computer hardware is 3-5 years depending on how often it is used. If everything is securely connected as you say it is, your first step is going to be to replace the motherboard.

How to open up my tower to blow out the dust

Should be screws on the back of tower to take the whole top off or screws down left side back to take the left side off.If one side can come off after screws are taken out you will slide side back to remove.

HP Tower (2000 Media Edition)

Sounds like your power supply unit is dead. Do you get any power or hard drive lights on the unit? If not, I'm afraid it's a repair shop problem.

Constant rebooting of a computer can be cause by alot of reason the most common for this is due to oevrheating, to check if this is a overheating problem try to open the case of the tower and put a electric fan in front of the tower to coll it down then power ON thecomputer and if it booted up fine with a electric fan blowing on the tower we're sure that you need to add some colling device on the computer tower, But if still do the same thing the problem here is the power supply unit it needs a replacement already....

You might need to open the case and make sure that the wires going from the power button are actually connected to the motherboard.
