I'm sorry I wasn't very clear in my post.

I'm using XP Pro. (It would have helped mentioning that.)

I'm using the Microtek ScanWizard Pro 3.09 software and while the feature is there I cannot enable it. It's permanently set to "None".

Thanks for the assistance anyhow. :)

This scanner is ancient and it cost the company a fortune at the time (many many years ago) and it is nothing but a pain in the ****. I keep mentioning how useless it is but oh well.

I did however try the demo of SilverFast software and it did descreen my scan. A bit of photoshop magic and their waterrmarks are gone! I really shouldn't have to pay extra for software that does the job the ScanWizard Pro should do with no problems.

    Thanks again!

I done some reading and instead of descreen you might be able to change DPI and get the same effect. It pretty well told me tho that a scanner has to be programed for descreen.
    God Bless

I need a scanner that will scan 10X14 pictures

Hi,
I found some scanners for you listed below but,
You can also scan large pictures in sections, and then use a program like STITCHES. Basically you scan it in quarter sections and then create a working board in your photo program and then you copy and paste each section into that board and line up the edges.
This is what most people do rather than buy a very expensive large format scanner.

Some large companies also have large scanners for maps etc. If you know someone who works for a very large company or one that does surveying etc. They may do this favor for you.
Though copy stores may have the size you need, copywrite issues will be asked about.

Here is the list.
large format scanners http://www.microtekusa.com/lf.html

Microtek ScanMaker 9800XL Scanner
Price: $1,038.31, 12-by-17-inch tabloid size bed

Mustek Scan Express A3 1200 Pro USB Large Format Scanner
$154.69media_size_maximum: A3 (11.7 in x 16.5 in)

http://www.contex.com/english/scanners/sd_series_scanners.aspx
Maximum Scan Width 44in.

http://www.xerox.com/digital-printing/large-format-printers/large-format-scanners/enus.html
Input Size:Min: 4.5" x 5.5" Max: 42" x 100'

Thank you and good luck.

I need to reformat my emachines m2350.

Hello,

If you want to restore the machine to factory state I would suggest using the restore disk that came with it originally.

You possibly will need to go into your particular bios and set the boot option to start with the cd and then save and restart with the first cd in the drive. From that point you will need to follow on screen prompts to start the restore.

If you do not have the Cd's you can contact Emachines to order a replacement. You can contact them with the information below:

Telephone Technical Support
Customer care representatives are available 5 AM to 12 midnight PT seven days a week.
United States 408-273-0888*
Canada 604-637-1419*

*Long-distance charges may apply, depending on your calling area.

They also have a chat option available from https://support.gateway.com/Support/copilot/en/us/chat_us_em_tech.asp

Thanks and remember to rate this solution.

Windows xp problem

Hi

It seems you installed an outdated (16bit Program) for the ScanMaker 4. 16Bit applications/programs and generally DOS based (Windows 3.x and 95) and will not run properly from Windows XP.

First, check http://support.microtek.com/product_dtl_2.phtml?prod_id=23 and download and install Drivers and Plugins for Windows XP.

You may need new 3rd Party Scanner/Image Applications that work in Windows XP. However, if you still want to use the 16Bit application then you will need to run the program in 16Bit Compatibility Mode. To do this, right-click the program executable or shortcut, choose propertise from the drop-down menu, go to the Compatibility Tab and put a tick in "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" From the drop down menu, choose Windows 95 or 98 and apply.

Finally, check the the User's Guide or ReadMe file(s) (if you have it) for more info. Especially, check the recommended OS for the Applications.

I might be wrong, but i think ScanMaker 4 has a SCSI interface. If this is correct, then your laptop or port replica must have a SCSI port. NB: SCSI is not the same as Printer LPT Port.

Regards
Mike
