Replace Filter Indicator Will Not Turn Off

I just changed the HEPA filters on this product, and the red light indicating a new filter is needed still will not turn off. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you.

Re: Replace Filter Indicator Will Not Turn Off

I owned the previous model of the same unit with the hole for the paperclip. But it wore out and I replaced it with the HAP422 and found the same issue; no hole to "reset" the light. I was just fooling with it and determined that "some" switch would reset it and finally held the power on button on for a few seconds, after which, the red light flashed and then went out. Problem solved. BUT THERE IS NOT ONE WORD IN THE MANUAL TO TELL YOU THIS! WHY NOT?

Re: Replace Filter Indicator Will Not Turn Off

Usually on holmes purifiers there is a small hole in which you need to insert a paper clip or similar to reset the filter replacement indicator - it should be labelled "reset", but i couldn't find exact instructions for your model. Contact these guys for more details if you have trouble locating the reset - some models use a combination of control buttons to reset them; Hope this helps :)

Re: Replace Filter Indicator Will Not Turn Off

Omg...thank you so much! i replaced the filters in two units...and the red lights wouldnt go off (if it was just one unit i might have thought it was just broken)...anyway...i googled for HOURS to try to find a way to reset this red light...the only thing that kept comping up for the HAP422 was to stick a paperclip/safety pin in a little NON-EXISTENT hole! im not sure why this thread didnt come up until i actually added the "BRC" to the end of the HAP422 (this model is not on holmes' website any longer and ive since lost the manual, i found the full model name on the bottom of the unit)...just wanted to share that holding down the power button for a few seconds until the red light blinked while the unit was on worked...lights are off...woohoo!!! :)

Re: Replace Filter Indicator Will Not Turn Off

I held down the power button, while it was running, for about 3 seconds. The indicator light started blinking and then turned off. I have a HAP422.

Re: Replace Filter Indicator Will Not Turn Off

I had the same problem, so I contacted customer service and they recommended the following. It worked for me, so I wanted to share with everyone: To reset the filter check indicator light, press and hold down the on/off button for 20-25 seconds while the unit is on and running.

The Intelli-Check™ Filter Monitors will indicate replacement of the pre-filter and the

HEPA filter. Depending upon your individual usage (environment and hours used),

you may need to check and replace the filters more or less frequently.

To check Expected Filter Life Usage

When the unit is turned on, quickly press the appropriate filter monitor button. The

pre-filter light will flash up to 3 times and the HEPA filter light will flash up to 4 times,

depending upon how much expected filter life has been used.

1 flash = from new, up to 1/3 expected life used up

2 flashes = between 1/3 and 2/3 expected life used up

3 flashes = between 2/3 and all of expected life used up

Remains on = time to check/replace pre-filter

1 flash = from new, up to 1/4 expected life used up

2 flashes = between 1/4 and 1/2 expected life used up

3 flashes = between 1/2 and 3/4 expected life used up

4 flashes = between 3/4 and all of expected life used up

Red light on...

the unit probably needs to be reset. cause what's happening is that it's not recognizing that the filters are clean. there should be a tiny pin hole at the top of the unit. when the unit is on you need to put a small needle in there and hold for about 5 seconds and the unit should reset. if that doesn't work please please let me know and i will see what else we can do.

Red light won't go off

To RESET the Electronic Filter Check:
When the filter check light remains on,it is time to check/clean the HEPA-Type
filters and reset the filter check,if needed. With the unit powered on,insert the tip of a ball-point pen or
paperclip into the hole next to the LED filter check light and hold for approximately 5 seconds until the
light turns off (Fig 5). Depending upon your individual usage (environment and hours used),you may need
to check and clean the filters more or less frequently. If the HEPA-Type filters are cleaned before the filter
check light turns on,the filter check should be reset at the same time.
These cleaning intervals are intended as guidelines only. Performance of any filter media is dependent
upon the concentration of contaminates going through the system. High concentrations of contaminates
such as dust, pet dander and smoking will reduce the useful performance of the filter.
NOTE:The HEPA-Type filters are not washable.

Hunter 730 carbon pre-filter replacement orange light

Filter lights on your Air Purifier One of the best things about your IQAir Air Purifier is that it has warning lights to tell you when to change the prefilter, gas or hepa filters. Of course how long they last depends on your pattern of usage. For the initial 80% of the filter life the control panel will display a green light next to the corresponding filter on the outline of the unit. When the orange light goes on it does not mean that the filter needs to be replaced immediately but that there is 20% of useful life left. IQAir gives you plenty of time and the machine will tell you how many hours you have left. Once the number of hours gets to within a few hours remaining the orange light will then change to red. It is at this time you should change the filter. If you forget to change it and there are no hours left the hours will go into the negative displaying how many hours you have gone over and the red light will change to a flashing red light.

Just in case you have lost the manual like one of our customers, this is how you reset the filter lights:
1. Press the menu button ( 7 times) until you get to where the display says new filter.
2. Press the enter button and hold it down for 3 seconds and a number 1 will be flashing after the words new filter on the display. This flashing number is so you can enter which filter you have changed. Filter number 1 is the pre-filter, filter number 2 is the V-5 gas filter, and filter number 3 is the Hepa filter.
3. You change the number for the filter by pressing the up arrow button.
4. Once you reach the correct filter number you press the enter button and the control panel will display a question mark after the words new filter on the display. Below this it will say, E = Yes M = Cancel. If you wish to cancel the entry so it does not reset a new filter life, simply press the Menu button.
5. If you want it to reset the filter life for the changed filter, simply press the Enter button. Once this is done, the filter light will change back to the green light, which will show the filter has been changed. If you go to the remaining filter life on the control panel for the filter number you just changed, you will now see the remaining life of the filter in hours has been reset.

    Red filter indicator light

Hi Linda - there is a "reset" hole - you have to stick a pin or a paper clip in the hole when you change the HEPA filter - I just found this out myself! It does work. Mine didn't work right away, but it did end up resetting and went back to green after a few moments. I think this happened to me last time. The filters are really expensive, but you can get them at Walmart. If you need more information, email me at and I'll tell you what model filter, etc.

    Hepa filter

The red light indicates a plugged filter. Replace the filters plug the machine in and get a paper clip. Streighten out the clip and put it through the tiny hole in the top. You'll feel it push a switch that will give a click you can feel. Keep holding the clip wire down for several seconds. When the red flashes remove the clip wire. The light will stay off if the filter is clean.

    Red Light indicator on

I have a Bionaire tower air filter model BAP1700 that I bought from Costco. The filter check LED came on recently after 5 months of use. After cleaning the Permatech filters, I tried every remedy on this website including following the instructions that say push power button for 2 secs. Nothing worked. Then I noticed a tiny hole on the control panel in front of clean filter LED; I pushed a paper clip pin into that hole, felt a click, held it down and 2 secs later, LED went out. Success!
