Question about Hampton Bay 54 In. 5-Blade Fan, Chestnut, Autumn Mist
We broke the glass cover for the Windward II Ceiling Fan/ Light while cleaning it. Can you tell us where to purchase a replacement cover?

Look over the paperwork that came with the fan -- there should be a customer service number somewhere (there is on the paperwork I got for a fan from the other big box store) -- it might be buried in the fine print somewhere...
best bet is to call them -- if you're really courteous and respectful, they might send you the parts at no cost... (of course, that may also depend upon which side of the bed the rep got up on)...

There is a 4 position (dip) switch on both the fan housing and the remote. Make sure these switches are set exactly the same and the remote will control the light and fan separately. If not, the remote may be getting interference on the preset frequency - try CHANGING the dip switches to a different setting and the remote should work.

go to Home Depot, not only do they have replacements, but they can order for you what you need. Hampton Bay is the Home Depot brand.

This is not a 'promo' for Home Depot but you will find the screws there that you need.
You will need 15 screws, with an 'unfinished' appearance, for the attachment of the five blades to the arms, and 10 screws that have a smooth rounded finish to attach the arms to the motor housing. If they do not have it in stock they can order ot for you.
If you have an electrical fan store in your area you should be able to find the items there as well.
If you have an old discarded ceiling fan, take the screws out of it and try them on your current fan, they should work.

There is a small part in the light kit of the fan connected to the lighting circuit. The part is relatively common to these fans and is most likely in yours as well. The sticker on the side of it shows model 98480X part number 98480-02. Clip the leads to remove this part and wire-nut the wires back together bypassing it (black/red to black and white to white). This will get your unit back to normal and the switches will still work. I spoke with Hunter and this part has nothing to do with the remote control features of the fan. It is a wattage limiter. If you attempt to put bulbs into the fan that are higher than the recommended wattage this unit steps the voltage down to prevent overheating and possible electrical issues. Removing it will not prevent the fan from functioning but you should be aware that it is in there by federal regulation requirement and without it you could risk electrical failure or fire if you put bulbs in that are too high a wattage. If you call the manufacturer to report the issue they will send you a new lighting housing for your unit which will have a new limiter in it and solve your issue as well. In my case I needed the light working so I bypassed it then requested the part. In the meantime I just made sure that the bulbs I was using were well within spec. In my case the limiter was just on the light, but depending on the model or how the wires were nutted together by your electrician if the fan was also nutted on after this device it would certainly have issues as your bulbs would now be limited to the total wattage of the bulbs and fan combined.
