Unless the flash tube is cracked or broken there may be other reasons why the unit is not working. Try this- power up the unit and hold the back of it near you tear, If the ready light goes on, fire it- if you hear a slight clicking sound- the unit is working but the flash tube is either dead, broken or out of the circuit.

Unless you are experienced in electronics, the flash tube in you unit is NOT user changeable, soldering equipment skilsl are required to replace parts and even small units can harbor lethal voltages that can cause serious injury or even death- even after the unit is switched off.

Consult you local dealer or the distributor for repair services. Ed

Need manual for sigma ef-500 dg super minolta version

You may download a copy of the manual from here. It's for the Pentax version of the flash, but I don't see anything in it that's Pentax-specific except for the mention that's it's Pentax-specific.

Unfortunately, the manual for this model is no longer available online (even on the Sigma website). Try searching torrent sites and ebay as a last resort.

Sigma ef-500 dg st won't work with my d300 or 200 in ttl mode

This Sigma flash is not Ittl compatible. The D300 and D200 Nikon must have Ittl compatible flash to operate in any of the Automatic modes. It is a great flash but will not work on those two cameras.

Can I use a sigma flash EF 500 with Sony Alpha 350

Yes, if it has a Minolta/Sony mount. The Sigma EF 500 has been producedin different mount, so that the model can fit different cameras from different producers. A Sigma flash for Sony should have SO-ADI written on it.

Sigma EF-500-DG, does not charge and does not become ready

Hello

Thank you for using FixYa for your problem

Always check the batteries first - make sure they have full charge (in the wrong way can discharge them) but if is it still giving the same fault, your flash is faulty.
It should be taken to an authorized repair centre for a repair estimate. Very few digital cameras have any user-serviceable parts.

Please rate our solutions and if you still have problems please call back for more ideas to help you

1. Sigma EF-500 DG ST 2. Quantaray 7500A

A: For Sigma issue:

The Sigma EF-500 flashes have very small chromed contacts for the batteries. Even though they may not look corroded, they may not power up or conduct enough power to fully cycle up. Use a polishing tip in a dremel or an ink eraser tip to clean the internal wire contacts and the flat contacts on the door. I use dielectric grease on a q-tip to apply a coat to all contacts and cleaned battery terminals to minimise future issues.

Broken shoe mount on Sigma ef-400 dg super Flash

Contact Holly Enterprises- The manufacture a metal foot to replace broken plastic ones on flash units. The made one specifically for some of the popular Vivatar flash units and I am not sure if theses can be used with your flash unit ro if the have others that are made especially for you strobe. I also don't know if the are user installable.

If you have to take the unit apart to do this procedure, you have to consider the high voltages that can remain in the unit even after is it turned off, If Holly can not assist you, check with the distributor of the flash- It may be better to have it professionally repaired in case there are other issues such as disconnected or broken wires that may have been damaged when the base was torn off.

Please let me know if you have any lick with this. Ed

So I had fixed the problem this morning, since the warranty has expired, I opened up the flash to take a peak on the inner workings, and found that a wire had come loose, got out the soldering gun and repaired the connection and all is good.
