Question about Sony Handycam DCR-TRV740 Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Green image Hello, I just switched my TRV-740 on and the display is very green. There appears to be no red content at all. I plugged it into my computer via firewire to make sure it wasn't just the LCD, but it was the same. I also reset the camera with no luck. I'm pretty upset about this. Is it a major repair job or is there anything I can try? Many thanks, Terry.

This is usually caused by a defective CCD image sensor and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired qualified service technician.

How do I make the connections from the Red - White - Yellow RCA Male plugs of the camera to a USB adapter Red - Blue - Green RCA Female to download to a computer? Stumped.

Hello, for the descriptions of the colors (red. green, and blue) of the USB video adapter, what you have is a "component video input" also called YUV in which you can only send color difference signals from a device that has the same kind of output, like a DVD player. So, you cannot plug your cam cable directly to them.
Maybe your USB adapter has another input or dongle in which the colors of the RCA jacks are the same as you have in your camcorder. Red: right Audio, Black: left Audio and Yellow: composite video.
Send me back more info of your adapter, like make and model, maybe I can see the specs and add more help in this matter.
Good luck

What a smashing camera, you luck S - D I would love a camera like that, take good care of it okay? anyway the green problem is that the last person to use it has left a Built-In filter turned on in EA menu, once it is switched off you will be okay, have great fun I know you will with that.

No image on LCD screen

It sounds like you're receiving partial information on the LCD screen and that the image sensor isn't sending information to the screen.

If you know the sensor is working by recording some video on an SD card and being able to view the recorded video on your PC, then there is a disconnect between the LCD and the image sensor.

If you are not recording video to your SD card and only get black images or no files, the image sensor is damaged.

If you are recording video, but no image appears on your LCD for internal viewing/playback, you can try a firmware update if one is available from, but this is a discontinued item so there's not much available for support.

Hope this helps!

Panasonic pv-gs200 mini dv....the display monitor

It has to be a faulty imager (CCD). You should contact your local Panasonic service center as they should be the only ones who can change the CCD.

Hope this helps!

Green flicker

I researched a similar problem (black screen instead of distorted) with my DCR-DVD300 and found that Sony is aware of the problem and will repair it for free. See the following link at the Sony site:
