Hi
On many front load washers, the latch engages a switch to activate the timer and other control components. If the latch is not completely engaged or if the switch is faulty, the machine will not operate. Here's how to test and repair a door switch:

Step 1: Latch the door and hold the latch tightly in the closed position. This works best on a unit with a lever-type latch. Then turn the control to the ON position. If the unit works, the problem is probably a misaligned lock unit. Adjust the lock unit with a screwdriver. If this doesn't solve the problem, the switch may be faulty.

Step 2: Test the switch with a volt-ohm-milliammeter (VOM) set to the RX1 scale. Remove the panel covering the door switch and remove one of the electrical lead wires of the switch from its terminals. Clip one probe of the VOM to each switch terminal and shut the dishwasher's door. If the meter reads zero, the switch is working. If the meter reads higher than zero, the switch is faulty and should be replaced.

Step 3: Replace the switch with a new one of the same type. Connect the new switch the same way the old one was connected.

The solution was that the door latch needed to be replaced.

Apparently u might have tried to force the door open while it was locked. When this happens, it breaks an electronic part of the latch and it stays in locked position.

U can call the technician as they wld solve replace that and it wld be absolutely fine..

If u wish i can send u a manual how to replace latch but i wld advz that a technician wld change that.

Thnx.

"The control panel may in *LOCKED* mode.

Press the *OPTIONS* and *SELECT* buttons at the same time and hold for about three seconds to unlock the control panel.

Make sure the detergent tray is fully closed too."

hope this works

Switch it off from the main power supply and on again and run another wash (the shortest cycle on your dial) and it should open next time.
Sometimes it just "forgets" to activate the latch.

A door interlock that will not allow the door to
open if water is in the machine.

    Make sure the machine is
    drained of water.

  • SAM ANDERSON Nov 20, 2008

    • Door interlock jammed

    • Door catch, handle, or mechanism broken
You need to call technican to solve this problem .

Plug off the wall, check to see if any wire has come loose at the door switch. If it is okay it could be a door switch failure, and should be replaced.

Unplug the washer and remove the panel under the door. There are three torx type screws located under the bottom edge of the lower panel. HINT: Propping up the front feet of the washer can make accessing the screws much easier - I use blocks of wood. With the screws removed, the panel should drop down, then come off. Sometimes the panel may stick. A slight tap on the sides can dislodge it.
Now, reach behind the front panel from the bottom on the side where the door latch is located. Feel for a round tab at the bottom of the door latch and pull straight down. This the manual release for the door. Hopefully, all you had was a glitch that caused the door latch to jam. Try restarting the washer to see if the problem persists.

    another try--
there is a small hole in round acess door, use a pointed tool or instrument of improvision to stick into hole, turn whole access door. once opened(removed) you will see a manual drain . turn the large cap inside cc wise.have plenty of towels ready.once water drains make sure it is clean inside (of lint,or any other foreign objects. reassemble and se if it works.

    1 more try--
The most common type of door interlock is a heater operated delay lock, which is why some machines take a time for the door to release. So make sure you have waited a minimum of 2 minutes before you open these or conclude that they are faulty. This type of interlock cannot be repaired and quite simply have to be broken loose from behind the front cabinet, and replaced. With the power isolated you need to remove the top cover and put your hand down behind the front panel to where the door lock is located (directly behind the hole where the door catch enters the cabinet). The door catch then has to be prised away from the front of the cabinet until the door opens or the interlock breaks.

Some machines will not let you open the door if the machine has water in it, or the drum is turning, so first make sure the water has been emptied from the drum, then check the mechanism which detects the motion of the drum. This motion detector can be attached to the motor or the drum pulley, and is a mechanically operated lever attached to the door lock by a cable.

If there is resistance to the cable being shortened then the door will open, however if the cable offers no resistance the door will not open. The mechanism on the motor or drum pulley consist of a lever with a ****** assembly at the end. The lever is pulled towards the belt when you try to open the door. The ****** at the end of the lever is at right angles to the belt and is what provides the resistance to the cable, but if the belt is moving the ****** gets pushed to one side and the cable has a fuller range of movement, hence offers no resistance for the door to open. Sometimes the ****** assembly can break and needs to be replaced, otherwise it is just a matter of adjusting so there is a miniscule gap between it and the belt.

Pull the bottom panel off the bottom of the machine and pull the manual unlock cord. There will also be a tech sheet inside the washer side walls. It will tell you what the code means. let me know and i will tell you what to do. First try unplugging the machine for 10 minutes and let it reset.

Depending on the model and brand it may not have an unlock cord. But try resetting it by unplugging and running through another cycle.

Find the tech sheet inside the washer and it will tell you how to run a diagnostic cycle. This then will tell you exactly what is wrong. If it will not acces the diagnostic cycle and you are doing everything correctly, The board must be replaced. Have you tried replacing the door lock mechanism?

Frigidaires are known for the door lock mechanism failing. Also the control boards.

AEG Lavamat washing machine model 76850, shows a blinking key and makes clicks and after that shows E40. Thanks John

Family error code E40 is visible to customers and (could be E41,E42,E43,E44 and E45 only visible in service mode) means problem with open door or door interlock.
I suggest rapid reading alarm code when appliance is in normal operating mode (e.g. during the execution of the washing
programme):
Press and hold down START/PAUSE and any of the option buttons for at least two seconds: the LEDs initially switch off, and then display the flashing sequence corresponding to the alarm.
The alarm sequence continues as long as the two buttons are held down.
E41 - Door open
E42 - Problems of door closure
E43 - Interlock power supply triac faulty
E44 - Door interlock sensing circuit faulty
E45 - Door interlock sensing circuit triac faulty

Possible causes:
Door interlock faulty, wiring faulty or PCB faulty.

Key Symbol appearing and cycle wont start

Please see if there is a lock installed into for safety. Press and hold power/start/pause as power is plugged.
Make sure that the door switch is working open and close once again to check as this can also stop the machine from operating.

Bosch WFK 2401 Need to slam door several times to lock door

Sounds like you need the electric "door interlock" replaced. It is a simple matter of seperating the front of the machine enough to unplug the interlock mechanism, remove the two screws holding the mechanism in place and remove it from the back, reverse the procedure to install the new "updated" replacement part (- Bosch #170935 btw. about $37.00 from Sears). - time: approx 1/2 hour if you aren't mechanically inclined.

Asko 10505 - wash finished, door won't open

it is most likely your machine may have a draining problem. if it cant drain the water out the door wont open. if you open the small door at the front bottom of the machine you will find the little black drain hose. unplug the hose off the door and drain machine. when the machine is empty try powering on and opening the door. if still no luck you will see (in the same location) a red pull ring. undo the screw holding the ring in position and gently pull until the door releases. it would be worth undoing the button trap lid to access the pump and check for any blockages (most common coins **** pins etc) let me know how you get on.
