Sony CDX M8800 Front Panel Problem

Whenever the front panel is opened, there is no illumination and no functions can be operated. When the front panel is closed using the remote the display does not work. You can get the display to work if you press the reset button but it fails again once you open and close the front panel. In addition the CD will not eject the CD, however this may not be related.

When panel is closed graphics and illumination works, but when panel is open it does not light up and buttons do not work. I tried the reset button and it worked the first time but when I opened the panel again it went back to the same thing. You also cant put a cd in or take one out.

I am having exactly thee same problem!! None of the buttons on the base unit light up/work and when the cd player is closed it's just a dark screen. I cannot eject the cd that's in the cd player either. The remote seems to work fine. I have tried just about everything including changing the fuses and nothing seems to have worked at all.

The operating instructions suggest pressing open/close to make sure the front panel opens and closes correctly once before operating further. Here is a link to Sony for your CDX-M8810.

My Sony CDX-C680...

Hello greggerika,

It's possible that the "illumination" wire is not connected or connected improperly. It's also possible that the front panel electrical connections are not making proper contact. Remove the front panel and gently clean the contacts with a pencil eraser.

Also, the CDX-C680 allows you to select either green or amber illumination. One or the other may be defective. Try changing it. Press SHIFT - press "3" (set up) three times - press "5" (right arrow) to change the setting. Also check the setting for "dimmer". ON will result in a dimmed display at all times. AUTO will dim the display whenever the headlights are turned on (if the wiring is connected properly). OFF will result in the brightest display at all times.

Hope this helps.

No display on sony cdx-m8800

if the remote makes it work and it plays ....if all functions work other than display check for bad solder joints on the display pay  attention to the ones on the corners if the unit is or was a tight fit in the dash its possible that the unit got a little stress and broke loose from the board .... if there is a white powder look in the display it probably bad... the silvery black in the corners is normal
