Steam Iron stopped working, unable to disassemble it

My wife has been using a EuroPro steam ironing unit, model EP8000, ser # AE ZZ 00035471 for a number of years and it just stopped working. I would like to take it apart but it has a very strange screw head that I cannot identify. Something like a star head but there is a point in the middle which means the driver must be hollow in the center. Does anyone know what type of screw driver is required to remove this type of screw? I'd like to try to diagnose the problem before replacing the unit entirely.

I had the same problem and discovered that they are designed to stop people tampering with appliances. However, you can buy security tamper screwdriver heads. There are loads on e-bay.

Where is the on/off steam switch, as I cannot get the iron to steam

If the switch isn't obvious it could be it doesn't have one and is supposed to steam continuously. The last iron my wife bought is like that. When she fills the tank and plugs it in it will steam for a matter of seconds and then stop. It begins to steam again as soon as she starts to use it.

Why has the steam function has just stopped working - power on but nothing happens

My wife has one of these irons and she loved it. Now it steams for a while, and a red light starts blinking and it stops steaming. It can be turned back on and works for a while, then the same thing happens. I read that it needed descaled, so I bought OUST descaler and ran it through the iron, but it did not solve the problem. Any one have a solution to this problem, I would like to hear from you.

Euro-pro EP1005 iron--iron heats -blower works-but no steam

You may not need a new iron, my wife's iron is doing the same thing. take the top of the ironing board off (you will need a torx t-20 security bit driver), under the tank is a connection that may have rusted out re-connet it and turn the iron on. Once it heats up, check the tank for leaks. The tank may need to be replace as well or try a 5-minute epoxy type glue on the leaks once it has cooled. If the tank leaks you will get not get enlugh pressure building up to get the steam.

How to use steam iron

Fill the iron with equal parts white vinegar and distilled water. Place an oven rack over your sink and position the iron on top, with the steam vents facing down. Plug in the iron and turn it to the steam setting. Run it until the steam stops.

Brown spots coming from steam iron

you can mix 50% water with 50% vinager let it set in the iron overnight then turn it on and let the steam run out. What happens is the inside of the iron where the water is had corroded or rusted or has lime deposits.the vinager will break this loose overnight.also after you let the iron steam out all the mixture, flush the iron 4 to 5 times and start using fresh water from a store bought gallon.your tap water is probably full of iron.
