Symbol scanners (several models) not recognizing Code 39 Extended

I'm trying to add tab functions within a barcode, supported by Code 39 Extended. When I add the 'shifted' characters the scanner spits it out as '$I' instead of 'Ctrl I' or as '+B' instead of 'b'

I've made sure several times that I've scanned the barcodes to set the scanners to 'Convert Code 39 to Full ASCII' and tried with Function Key Mapping as Enabled as well as Disabled, all with the same results.

What's killing me is I know the barcode itself is ok, as there's a Wasp scanner we have that produces the correct results.

Any help into what I may be missing would be greatly appriciated.

P.S. Some of the scanners are attached via Keyboard wedge, and others by USB, but have the same results too.

P.P.S. Two of the scanner models are 2208 and a 4208, the other two are worn too bad to read,

Finally tracked down what was wrong just now... it's all too often the stupid things, and this was one of them.

I'd taken the 'Enable Code 39 Full ASCII Conversion' from the WAND EMULATION section instead of SYMBOLOGIES... soon as I scanned the right one, it works.

I'm just gonna go kick myself for a while now, beat my head against the wall for hours yesterday without realizing what I'd done...

The barcode must be a Code 39 barcode, not a Code 39 Extended or Full ASCII barcode. The Enable Code 39 Full ASCII must be scanned from the Symbologies section of the LS2208 Product Reference Guide (page 186 of 342). The Enable Function Key Mapping barcodes would have to be scanned if you are seeing something other than the tab happen when you scan into your application. In Word, for instance you will see the italics enable/disbled whenever the $I is encountered in the barcode.

As for the Covert to Code 39 Full ASCII- that is for Wand and Scanner emulation. The setting was having no effect because you were not connecting to either of these hosts.

It could be better to create a barcode that has these codes.
many readers only let you have 2 post-amble codes, eg code that are automaticlly added after you have scan your bar code. problem with this it will happens every time you scan something, which is not always desirable.

How do I add CR to Barcode Value?

<p>The primary purpose of bar codes is to encode the unique characteristics of numbers and letters can be in a format that machines can easily read. However, bar codes are read by people often also for this reason, the codes generally include both parties readable and legible. The most popular bar codes meet a standard called "Code 39". The latest version of the code with 39 additional characters called "Extended Code 39." Among other characters, Extended Code 39 allows users to include carriage returns (CR) in bar codes. <br /> <p><br /> <p>1. Setting the bar code scanner to read "Extended Code 39," Code 39 is not as common support CR. The details depend on the specific bar code scanning software is used, but you will usually find this option under "Tools" then "Options." <br /> <p><br /> <p>2. Configure the software to generate bar code to the "Extended Code 39" is also used. The details depend on the specific software to generate barcode is used, but you will usually find this option under "Tools" then "Options." <br /> <p><br /> <p>3. Type "M $" (without the quotes) at the point where you want the CR model is within the barcode. M $ gives a CR Extended Code 39. <br />

After scanning it is automatically not going to the next line

Symbol barcode scanners by default do not add a return after a scan. You need to program the scanner to add a suffix.

Download the manual from Motorola/Symbol here

I have a Symbol LS1203 but it doesn't read a C39 bar code, Anyone knows how I configure it?

Hello,
you would need to set the correct length for the barcode, there are several settings at the page 186 of the Product Manual located here http://support.symbol.com/support/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=5880807apdf
The options are One Ddiscrete Length, Length Within a Range or Any Length. Please select one of them by scanning the approriate barcode.

What is the bar code for the tab key

Hi paulajoy. I believe I can help, but I'm not sure what you mean. What are you trying to do? Configure your scanner to put a {TAB} keystroke in when scanning? Or are you just looking for the code for a {TAB} keystroke? If you are just looking for a code to identify it, the ones I know of are: ^I for Character, 09 for dec, and 09 for hex. If you're trying to configure your scanner, let me know and I'll be happy to help you find the right barcodes in the manual.

LS 2208. I have to add preffix ^ to Code 39 and suffix @ to

The easiest way to do this would be to write two Advanced Data Formatting rules using the LS2208 Product Reference Guide at this link (I suggest saving a copy then printing the pages from that saved copy)

http://support.symbol.com/support/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=5880806apdf&sliceId=&dialogID=118232754&stateId=0%200%2012083692

You should scan the following barcodes in order:

Begin New Rule Adobe page 232 of 342
Send All Data that Remains Adobe page 246 of 342
Send @ Adobe page 272 of 342
Save Rule Adobe page 232 of 342
Begin New Rule Adobe page 232 of 342
Code 39 Adobe page 235 of 342
Send ^ Adobe page 275 of 342
Send All Data that Remains Adobe page 246 of 342
Send @ Adobe page 272 of 342
Save Rule Adobe page 232 of 342

Scanning the barcodes in this order will make the scanner send an @ after every barcode scanned other than Code 39. Code 39 barcodes will get the ^ before the data and an @ after the data.
