Defective or dirty mode switches are common in vcrs like the ag-1980s. if your local repair shop has been in business for a few years, the problems should be easy to remedy.

I haven't been inside one for several years, but I believe you need to remove the entire mechanical chassis to get to it.

Panasonic AG-1980 display

If the display fades out, the problem is solved virtually every time by replacing a few electrolyctics on the display board, specifically C1,24,26,28 and 29.

What is HO2 message is for?

In many Panasonic models that means the tape did not withdraw when unloading. If this is the case then it could be the loading motor or mode switch that's the problem.

PANASONIC VCR DOES NOT LOADE THE CASSETT TAPE AND GOES OFF AS SOON AS I TRY TO LOAD THE C.TAPE.

VCR's have a thing called a mode switch. This tells the electronics of the machine want position the mechanical section is in. If it gets wrong signals then the VCR electronics power the machine down. These wrong signals are often caused by damage to any part of the VCR mechanical section. Perhaps in this case something to do with the carriage unit. But the switch itself can go wrong. A visual inspection inside might reveal damage to some part of the VCR.

1) I turn on the power and place a prerecorded

If it is not a bad soldering joint somewhere, it could be the mode switch. They can sometimes be cleaned with Servisol Video 40, but you might have to replace it.

The main light on the front panel went out on my 1980 desk editior. how much to repair?

The display on the AG-1980 goes dim mostly from old age - replacement of the display usually cures the problem, though you may need to replace some or all capacitors in the power supply.

Vcr problem

Did you try cleaning video heads? Most obvious problem. Do you see the picture out of the VCR while recording? That would rule out cables, switches set wrong and most of the electronic circuits.

most likely problem is a dirty or defective mode switch. this switch tells the internal computer what position the mechanism is in. if the switch is bad, the computer is "confused."
