My TV set, an 2004 Sony Model KP- WT510 Rear Projection is having problems with "Convergence" alignment; everything shows double or triple images and picture is totally distorted; I tried to align the convergence by following the user's Maual instructions to no avail, nothing seems to work.. Thank you for helping me solve this matter..

    Hello Amji;

I have already chatted with someone [Ronnie49] from Live Chat Now and although it did not fixed the problem right away I received some advise on how to go about in trying to fix the problem

and I hope it will work, I was advised to go buy the convergence board and replace the old one

which is probably defective but I'll need time to do that.

Thanks a lot6 for trying to be helpfull..

I'm working at it, it's going to take me a little time to get the parts and piece the whole thing together,

so, soon as I resolve this problem; I'll let you all know the results..

Again, Thanks for all the help,

    Anvien

I seem to have suffered the same problem with my KP4WT510 this afternoon. The red and blue colors have "unconverged" (if that is a word?). There is also bowing of the picture at both the top and bottom, which exaggerates the convergence issues.
    My question is this...
Has anyone any estimates on a repair cost for a technician to fix the problem at my house? I would not feel comfortable removing the boards myself.
I have to decide whether it is cheaper to replace my 2004 set with a new model or repair.
    Thanks for your help

Hi,
Actueally convergence controls by the two IC's called STK.And surely these ic's getting malfunctioning. Therefore you have to change it (Both two IC STK) with the same part number.

This will surely resolve the issue.
   Thanks

The convergence output integrated circuits aren't doing their job. These are mounted on a heat sink on the circuit board, but they still get hot enough that sometimes the solder connections to them can break. Resoldering the connections would fix that problem.

It's also possible that the convergence circuit is not getting power, usually be due to failure of one of the outputs, which can cause protective fuses or resistors to blow. This would be harder to repair yourself because it involves determining what parts need to be replaced.

It would probably be worth getting a technician to look at the set and give an estimate for the repair.

Getting "red" double image

Your TV most likely has a Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together convergence repair kits for most models.

The kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, etc. Everything you will need to do the repair yourself.

Double image picture

Your set probably originally had cold solder joints on convergence ic's. After this occurs and alignment jumps in and out a few times chips can fail and need replaced. The amps for convergence are mounted on large metalic heatsinks and sometimes protection fuses open upon their failure. Soldering/ desoldering equip. and test equip. are required to perform this repair and most shops charge between 200.00 and 400.00 to do this. Hope I've helped.
