Viking Dishwasher Timer Dial not advancing

The dial on my viking professional doesnt seem to advance. I can manually advance it to move the cycle. I read that I should check for a bad wiring connetion but dont know how to access behind the panel. Unit is 7 years old, first problem with it. Suggestions?

The timer has given it up.  The motor has probably stopped working or the gears are jammed.  You'll need to obtain and change the timer.  Generally, there are face mounted screws that may or may not be behind some covers.  Remove them to get to the panel that holds the timer.

Cycle dial doesn't advance automatically anymore. I saw some listed problems that sounded similar, but not exact. Washer will work in all cycles, but only when I watch and move the dial manually.

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

Its seems that the Timer is stuck, as everything else is working fine in the unit and the dial ust gets stuck and so won't complete the cycle so the problem is with the Timer motor going bad and needs replacement. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

Whirlpool mo 110753790 It gets stuck in the wash cycle & will not move unless you move the dial. This happens while the heat light is on & light will not go off which causes the dial to be stuck....

Timer behind dial is defective if it will not advance on it's own. Either continue to advance past the defective section of replace it.

Dishwasher stalls

If the cycle doesn't complete, check these:

Water-heating cycle
Timer
Water-heating cycle Many dishwashers heat the wash and/or rinse water to a higher temperature, as the cycle calls for it. In these cycles, the dishwasher pauses after it has filled with water, waiting for the water to reach the pre-set temperature. What happens next, depends, as follows:

  • On some units, the pause is timed and the unit continues after the allotted time.

  • On others, the cycle can't continue until the water reaches the higher temperature. If you have this type of dishwasher and the water isn't being heated (say, because of a problem with the heating element or thermostat), after the unit stops at the heating cycle, it never continues. When you repair the heating-system problem, the "cycle problem" is fixed too.

Timer Timers don't often fail. But if every other part of the dishwasher seems to be working properly and the timer knob seems to be stuck in one place--doing one function continuously--the timer may be at fault. Dishwasher timers can't be repaired. If yours is defective, replace it.

Viking VUD141 advances through the cycles but won't drain water

The unit should be installed with a high loop in the drain line at the rear of the unit. If this is not in place it can cause the drain water to run back into the unit. If there is a partial blockage it could result in incomplete drain. Try disconnecting the drain line below the sink and run the unit to drain into a bucket see how it drains. would be a sign as to how free your drain line is.

It could also have defective drain pump

TIMER DOES NOT ADVANCE

At the point where the wiring comes from the bottom of the tank and rises up the door is prone to burning. Before doing the following remove power from your dishwasher. By removing the kickplate at the front and inspacting the bundle of wires you may note that some of the wires are lumpy or burned. These wires need to be repaired. Failing that there is a cycling thermostat mounted to the bottom of the tank above the water valve. These cycling thermos will prevent the timer from advancing there should be a wiring diagram inside of the door that will help your efforts.
