Question about Sony BDP-S300 Blu-Ray Disc Player

Green Screen and Picture Noise

I just bought a Sony BDP-S300 and wen to watch my first movie last night (Iron Man). However, throughout the movie, I was getting little bits of digital noise. I can deal with that, but what really bothers me is that three times during the movie, it went fuzzy (like snow when you don't get a cable chanel) and then to a green screen and then back to the movie. It only lasts about two or three seconds, but still. Its not supposed to do that. It did the same thing when I watched Surf's Up. I have the newest firmware update so I know it is not that. It is hooked up through an hdmi switch since my HDTV only has one hdmi port. The TV is a Magnavox 42mf231d/37 which also has the latest firmware. None of my other devices have this problem. Please help ASAP?!

"getting little bits of digital noise. I can deal with that, but what really bothers me is that three times during the movie, it went fuzzy (like snow when you don't get a cable chanel)"

That is a streaming problem. The digital signal is disturbed , then you get pixelation and loss of signal.
Both phoenomena can be caused by bad HDMI cables.

First test that the problem is not the HDMI cable connecting to your TV.

Borrow a cable and test it, if you have same problem with a different cable then the DVD is probably faulty.

A defective lens or contacts on the lens pickup, or a bad soldering joint on the DVD player I/O board can cause both problems.

If the unit is new ask a replacement.

The only thing that you can to for blueray is to do the software upgrades, but seince you have already done so, and if the play still has the problem on other DVD's, the Sony Enginer's said that you must send it in for repair to SONY! Service Centers are not allowed to do repairs on this player, Or you can return it to the store.

If the disc are working properly in other devices you have then its probably the device problem or may be the loose wire connection between tv and the device.if the connection is proper then it must be the device problem .still you can switch to different player and clear out the exact problem. thanks.

Have you tried connecting the DVD player directly to the tv, without the hdmi switch. It may be the switch that is causing this problem. If the problem persists still you will want to try a different HDMI cable, then you will want to try a different dvd player or HDMI Source. Then you will know if its the TV or the player. I hope you find that helpful. If you still have questions let me know. Please take a moment to accept and rate my solution accordingly.
Thank you,
Lee

I am not sure why you would deny my assistance/ request further assistance when you havent even tried what I recommended. I hope you will reconsider and accept and rate a solution appropriately.

Ok first thing to try is unplug the tv while it is on and leave it unplug for 5 mins, then try it again. 2nd unplug all inputs leave nothing hooked to the tv. then try just 1 thing at a time. i want to be sure nothing outside the tv is causing some weird problem. you could have a video problem in the tv. this is kinda weird so lets try this first. if not let me know?

Try connecting the sony directly to your tv and see if the same problem happens, if it does, then you most likely have a faulty device, and since its brand new, you will most likely get it replaced or warranty repaired by your dealer.

Have purchased Terminator Salvation and 2012 on bluray, both Sony discs, they load and go to menu screen, however the icons to allow you to play or scene select etc do not appear, menu just plays over and...

Most likely you need to 'flash' (update) your BDP-S300's firmware. I had the same issue while trying to play AVTR in my BDP-S300. I downloaded Sony's latest firmware update, burned it to disc and popped the disc into the player... It takes 5-10 minutes for the 'flashing' to take place. AVTR now works in my player... Had to do this with one other Blu-ray movie about 18 months ago also.

Download the latest firmware version for the BDP-S300 here...

Follow the instructions to the letter!

Crank 2 will not play in Sony S350

The software updates for your Sony BDP-S350 can be found at their website here. You will need to download the file, burn it to a disc and then load the disc into your player to upgrade its software to play your new blu-ray movie.

I hope that helps.

Sony blu ray

Dear hoagie69,

I found out on the internet that there is a BDP-S300 Firmware Update last modified on 6/20/2008.

It requires downloading a file and burning it on to a CD-R. Then you would load it into your Blu-Ray Disc Player to upgrade the version you currently have.

If you are successful in updating, your 21 Blu-Ray Disc should work. It finally worked for me.

The link you will need to go to in order to download the file for the update is:

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=BDPS300&upd_id=3590&os_id=7
Hope this helps you. Boy, am I glad that I can finally watch the 21 movie!
