Ok, IP port forwarding is pretty straight forward. On the firewall configuration screen specify the outbound port and inbound port. The first should be what you want people on the outside to see it as, the second is what you want yourself to see it as. Next, virtual server pages are setup in your web server software, never seen it configured through the router...but it should be essentially the same thing. You specify a web content location if possible this is a physical path; you would need the permissions set to read only for HTML, read and execute for CGI/Perl or DHTML; and then you would setup domain information, etc or leave it blank and use the IP/Port. Finally if you don't change the /etc/hosts file you might run into some problems computer side because your internal ports will be different then the outside ones. This can effect 2 way communication. So you set it so that the address at say port 80 internally is redirected to say 8080 instead. This way whether your outside or instide you can type the address the same way.

I have router DI-524 and am unable to connect to internet thru this router. But it says, it is connected

I would do a hard reset by pushing the small button on the back. You will need a small pen to push it. Push and hold down button till the lights flash I would/ say 10-15 seconds should be good enough. Once it's reset try setting up all of your settings again. Remember if you have dsl you will need you username and password to be inputed in some cases. If it is broadband most likely you will not have to bother with username and pass hope this helps.

D-Link DI-524

the router might not be properly configured anymore. there's nothing wrong if you are using windows vista. what matters is if you have changed your ISP or even if you didn't, you still need to reconfigure the device since you're in another location.you can also try to reset first the router before configuring for a fresh start.

hope this'll help you

Connecting with internet

Yes, that is possible since you have a wireless router. Router can share internet connection. Go to this link this will help you setup the wireless connection (secure it if you want)

http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/wireless/Dlink/DI-524/wireless.htm then on the very bottom there is an option how to Configure Windows XP to connect to your wireless network.

I suggest this because it would be better if there is encryption on the network so people wont be able to access your internet for free (unless you give them the security key)
