Sounds like your altinater is going out. Take your car to auto zone or one of those places. They can check it for you. Once your altinater goes out you wont be driving any where cause thats what keeps your battery charged and keeps your car running. Do that today!

626 1997 Mazda want crank

Start by making sure you have a good battery, or a good charge on the battery. locate the starter signal wire on the starter , usually the small wire, connect your test light. have a friend turn the key and see if test light lights up. if so, your starters bad, replace the starter and you should be good to go.

My son is driving a 1997 Mazda 626 LX, and the ''malfunction indicator'' light came on. What does that mean? Is there a bigger problem looming?

IT CAN.DEPENDS ON HOW LONG YOU WAIT TO GET IT FIXED. AUTO ZONE WILL HOOK THE READER TO IT SO YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHATS WRONG. I BELIEVE THEY DO IT FOR FREE

Smoke on startup mazda 626

If it's the org. engine it will has over 150,000 miles on it.
It's normal to has the valve seal/oil seal on the head to leak oil into the cyclinder.

The smoke you see is the motor oil drop from the seals. It land on the top of the cyclinders and it create black smoke at start up.

The inexpensive fix is to start using high mileage oil with seal conditioner.
This will help soften the rubber seals and help reduce internal oil leak.

The correct fix is to wait until it's time for a head gasket replacement and let the professional service the head.

Complete head service is the only method to stop this internal oil drip problem.
