I've had this program for a few months now and it's been working great. Just recently I go to put in the blank DVD RW and I get a message that says something's caused this program to stop working. I've tried doing everything from re-installing the program several times to cleaning up and scanning my hard drive for viruses. Please help!

so what CD??? CD-R recordable, CD-RW? No PC stated. NO OS stated ,wow. just DC3000 and some kind of VHS tape? My guess bad media. (CD-r) or the drive it self is bad. or as all XP are , virus infected,
the spec says Transfer, edit and burn home videos with this all-in-one external HP DVD movie writer. The built-in analog video capture lets you quickly and easily transfer home video directly from tape to DVD via your camcorder or VCR, while the included suite of software lets you add special effects, music and more to video and photos. Also great for creating music CDs, it writes and reads CD-R and CD-RW discs in addition to DVD-R and DVD-RW discs. Includes software CD, electronic user's guide, USB cable, composite video/audio cable, 1 blank DVD-RW disc and 1 blank DVD-R 4x hi-speed disc. Requires a PC with Microsoft Windows XP or 2000 Professional SP2 and USB connectivity.
Ok, Firstly it sounds like you have reasonable knowledge on what you're doing. But just to clarify a few things. 1.You say you have tried a couple of different brands of disc.Unless they are of good quality or compatible with your machine they may not work properly.Try TDK or Verbatim for example. Also make sure they are DVD-R or DVD-RW. 2.If no blank discs are successful, then you may need to clean the laser lens thoroughly. I know you said you cleaned the lens, but was this with a lens cleaner disc? If so it will only remove dust not built up grime from other sources such as smoke from cigarettes. This would entail taking the cover off the unit and cleaning the laser lens directly with a cotton bud dipped in cleaning fluid. If you are not confident in doing this, then you would need to get someone qualified to do so! I have gotten many DVD Players and DVD Recorders working again doing this.
Here is a site with a list of compatible DVD-+RW that can be used in that burner:
As you can see, JVC isn't listed on there for some odd reason...
Cyberhome has gone out of business in the US. My DVR 1200 stopped working but I was able to repair some capacitors on the power supply to get it going again. You can find more support information about the 1200 and 1600 on these websites:
and search for Cyberhome.
