Can anyone help out? I have a DC07 which has suddenly started making a loud noise as well as an electrical burning smell - according to posts this may be due to the carbon brushes but I cannot see how to change these.

It is possible that the commutator of the unit is dirty or scored or even out-of round.  Then, there is the problem of the brush socket being distorted or dirty.  Inspect and remedy if possible.
To clean the commutator:  Disassemble the unit to the point where you can get the rotating assembly out.  Make careful note of all washers and spacers removed.  If two metal parts meet, scribe a line on them so that they can be realigned properly.
Using fine sandpaper (100 or higher), hold the commutator in a circle may with your your thumb and forefinger with the abrasive pressing on the copper.  Rotate it and then clean off with a soft, slightly dampened cloth and allow to dry.
Reassemble.  If you still have a problem, get professional service.

Power head not working

Hi, it sounds like your motor is gone. That was the sound i had from my dyson dc07 animal i took it apart and found that the brushes had burnt the armature on the motor. I ordered a new motor and fitted it back together with the help from an espares video. I bought a genuine dyson motor they come in a black box and it is a lot cheaper than buying a new dyson. It was the popping sound that i had .Hope this is of some help to you. Always unplug the hoover when working on it.

I have just replaced the belt on my Dyson DC07 today, hoovered a mat & it broke, when I took it off, it looked as though it had melted & the spindle it attaches too was burning hot, what is the...

Make sure that the brush is turning freely and that there is no thread or lint preventing it from turning. It sounds like it has siezed and this caused the melt down of your belt.

Sparking motor brushes

Sounds like your motor has had it, its possible to replace the carbon brushes, but probably wont last much longer.

If you visit http://www.sparesaver.com/help-and-support/dyson-section/dyson-technical-advice-450/ they have alot of info on repairing dyson cleaners AND they sell the parts, cheapest ive seen online.

Hope that helps

Dyson DC07 switched off whilst hoovering, It would not turn on, 1st it stopped rotating brush and than tuned off completly.. I tried ttoi change the fuse but still not turn on. Motor not runnung either.

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

Our machines are fitted with a thermal cutout switch. This will activate if the motor on your machine becomes too hot. This is caused by a lack of airflow to the motor, which is caused by a dirty filter or a blockage. Leave your machine for up to 2 hours, if it then switches back on, this is the most likely cause of the problem you are experiencing. Try washing your filter and checking for blockages.

If the problem continues, please contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Kind regards
Darran
