Question about Acer PC Desktops

1 Answer

I have an acer aspire 5610 laptop. Some of the keys on the keyboard do different things to what the symbol on them represents: the @ symbol looks like its near the 'enter' key, but i have to hold down 'shift 2' to get it, if i hold down 'shift @' on they board i get this symbol - " - which is on '2' on the keyboard....is this making sense? I'm in england and have the british pound currency symbol on the keyboard on one of the number keys, but when i try to type it it comes out as the hash symbol and i cannot type the pound currency symbol, theres a few others things that are the wrog way around. is this some set up problem? i've been into the control panel keyboard options, but with no luck. any ideas?

You have your keyboard set as US. If you go into control panel, open Regional and Language options and change all of the settings with a country to UK. That will solve your problem.

Where is the wireless off/on switch/button on my Acer Aspire 4810P laptop? Is there one?

Actually the acer notebook 4810T has a super modern button on / off wireless. Just move your finger quickly on the light. This also works for the buttons on the side. Note that the manual does not say light show but on / off button. Hope I have helped

Black screen

Depending on what kind of laptop you have, your button may look different. Look at the Function keys (all those keys up at the top that have F's in front of them) and see if there is another colored symbol on any of them. You should find a colored symbol that looks like a rectangular monitor.

Press another key toward the bottom of your keyboard that probably says "Fn" or some other kind of "Function" key - not Alt, Ctrl, or Shift. Hold that Fn key down while you press the first key you found that looks like a monitor. That will change your laptop video output mode between several different modes like: laptop LCD panel only; LCD panel and external monitor; and external monitor only.

The purpose of this is if you wanted to plug another monitor into the back of your laptop, or a projector for a meeting or presentation, etc.

Keyboard frozen/none of keys will work

Make sure it is plugged in securely. Try a different keyboard. If it is a USB keyboard try a different USB port. If it still won't work write back.

This a common problem,
You need to set your keyboard layout to the right country that matches your keyboard. i.e US or British etc.

Go to the control panel, regional and language options, languages, details.

Add or modify the keyboard country

How do I use the third symbol on the key underneath the Esc key on a keyboard? I know how to use ¬ and ` but not the third (a vertical line)

Usually a third symbol on a key will require the holding of another key to apply that symbol as when holding the shift key to go upper case and what not. But the third the symbol is usually a different color and the key to press to access that symbol is the same color as the symbol is. Such as with many laptop keyboards the FN key (usually at the bottom left side of the keyboard) is a bluish color and pressing it is required to apply the blueish symbols on keys.
I hope this helps.
