Hi Ernst_c

It took me a bit of time, but I figured this out. It works pretty good and I haven't ran into any problems lately. Ok, the way I do it is by first bringing up the "Paint" application (if you have it). Once I have a blank page open, I go to "file" , "from scanner of camera", it then brings up the option "what do you want to scan?" I normally go with "color picture". Press "scan", wait a bit, then it will show up on your "Paint" application. Then when you want to save it, go to "file", "save as" and where you want to put it in. It's pretty easy, it was just a bit hard for me trying to figure this out. Hope this helps.

When scanning or copying on my C4180 a thick black line appears on the right hand side of the page. This does not happen when printing.

clean the scanner glass... completely .. if you are scanning /copying from ADF .. then clean the adf rollers as well ..

You will be able to lift the ADF rollers and there will be a mat as well underneath the rollers.. clean them as well ..
the issue would be resolved.

HP Photosmart C4180 scanner

Unfortunately Vista has problems with many printers. (Or maybe I should say many printers have trouble with Vista.)

HP has a work around that allows you to scan without using the Scan button. Go to:

C4180 Scan Work Around

They give you 2 options to scan using programs on your system

Thanks for using Fixya.
