I have a JVC digital video camera (mini DV) model JVC GR-D347U.This camcorder has 4 pin DV connector for transferring moving images to P.C. I also have one laptop with IEEE1394 compliant DV 4 pin connector and Windows XP . I am not able to transfer images from camcorder to Laptop through DV cable(4 PIN TO 4 PIN).I tried with windows movie maker and ULEAD video software but laptop is not identifying the video device. Is this JVC DV requires any separate driver compatible to widows vista. I am very thankful to you if you can help me.

try to use windows xp instead of vista. it seems that your driver and your os vista are not compatible. hope that helps!

It should work. Laptops have a 4pin connection. There is a video on how to specifically connect digital cameras to laptops using 4pin to 4 pin IEEE 1394 cable. So it should work... The video is on www.HandBookLive.com under Electronics category. It doesn't cover the software because all softwares would be different, but you can see that it uses 4 pin to 4 pin. You can double check on this site though.

It's possible the software is not Vista-compatible.

If you have firewire on your desktop, Fry's sells a kit with software and cable for about 30 bucks that works perfectly.
