Question about Refrigerators
I just got a used Whirlpool ED25TE. Worked fine for a couple of days, then I found that it had stopped working and everything got defrosted (the refrigerator section was not being cooled either). I unplugged it and plugged back in a few minuted, and set the dial to off and the to medium and it started. It worked fine for 3-4 more days, and then the same thing happened. I repeated my solution from last time, and it works again . . . for how long I don't know. Can you tell me how I can fix this problem please?
I suggest to call a Whirlpool repairman.

Check to see if the Finn type coil next to compressor is dirty and clean it out with a brush or vacuum

your sure the defrost cycle works? sounds to me its not. you need to remove the freezer back and check the defrost components. or put it in the defrost cycle and see if it is working. to get that much frost as you describe the dor would have to be left open. also check all door seals. let me know what you find and we can go from there

SOURCE: Auto defrost not working
a manual defrost will help in the sense that it will healp save your food now if you dont mind spending a little cash may i suggest you go buy a eurika 350 hand held steamer its great for defrosting and about 1000 other thuings around your house you canget it at lowes places like that after defrosting the unit will freeze again in about two to three days depending on how many times you open your door reply to this thered with the appox age of your unit and i can better advise from there some times as in the case of a stuck theroma stat if seen it fix them but i wouldnt count on it hold my rating tii we are done

is it frost or ice.if frost you will need an ohm meter to check continouty on the heaters and term thermostat.term thermo must be cold to check.if ther ok check voltage to the heater system from the defrost timer.if no voltage replace timer.if its ice it could be a blocked defrost drain.unblock clean out

If it's flooding, it's NOT the drain pan. It's probably the water valve has gotten stuck in the open position. Hope this helps!

check to see if the fan motor in the freezer is running. all the cooling happens in the freezer and the fan is what circulates the cold air down to the refrigerator.. if the fan isnt running ,it could be a bad connection or a bad fan motor..on some models the doors need to be closed before the fan comes on so just push on the door switch to check .if the fan is running then a defrost problem may be the problem.. you mentioned you defrosted the unit. if the auto defrost isnt working, you would notice frost on the back of the freezer. there would be a lot more frost behind that panel that could block the airflow down to the frig. you would have to remove rear panel of freezer to clear all the frost and restore proper airflow..remember to unplug the frig before doing any work..
