My a/c needs a charge every year, but when i take it in to the dealer/local mechanic, they always find no leaks...Why?

This problem has been ongoing for 9 years... i just had the compressor replaced last year for a nice hunk of change to solve this problem...and yet.. i need to recharge the system again this year.

SOURCE: Split unit a/c - works but no cool air only air. I was told the compressor broke and would need to be replaced at a huge cost.

The warranty usually reflects the worst case life expectancy. In other words if your warranty is for 5 years then they expect that if the unit was to be run consistently with regular to no maintenance It will only last 5 years.

These systems are very expensive. But that is not because of there longevity but for their unique applications. Manufacturers are not selling nearly as many Mini splits as they do regular split systems. So it is really just a supply and demand situation.

SOURCE: A/C blows warm air

The condensate line was filling and the kill switch was turning off the compressors but the blower is not tied in so it kept running. When the water pump caught up it would take five minutes to turn back on and the temperature was roller coastering. They disconnected the kill switch. now I'm watching to see where the condensate will go if the pump can't keep up. I'm not sure for the long term if this is the best solution.

SOURCE: 2002 TRANE XE 1000 AC - small leak

It depends on if you are sticking with Trane.... Every 4 days is not a small leak; it is at the least a moderate leak. If they cannot repair the leak (they should), I would ask if the new air handler is compatable with the newer system. If yes, I would consider it, especially due to the age of the unit. I would also get at least one other estimate from another dealer. It sounds like you are getting pressured to buy as opposed to repair. We have Carrier inside and Trane outside and it works just fine.
I Hope that this was of value to you.

I've had this unit for several years using it during the summer and boxing it up over the winter. The cooling capacity has dropped. Does it need a freon charge or coils cleaned.

Van the refrigeration system is a closed loop system un less a leak has developed from vibration or other mechanical means your charge should be ok. I would do a evaporator Inside coil cleaning. then a condenser outside coil cleaning. Always shut power off By the breaker not by on/off switch. To be safe I would call a local service tech. This is a minor service and shouldn't cost an arm/Leg.

Should I flush transmission fluid and replace filter on 2002 Chevrolet Venture Van (has 46,600 miles).

For 46,000 mile Just do the serpentine belt and a oil change, as for the transmission fluid, leave it alone unless the pan gasket is leaking as for the brake fluid leave that alone,Dealers and shops do always try to sell thats there way of life, also always make sure all the fluid and air in the tire are filled and you will be good to go.

The mechanic read o2 sensors are bad - he replaced both - engine light came back on reading engine light again - tech erased the code again and again the light came on. The mechanic told my son he hates to...

what code is coming up if it coming up as a lean 02 sensor could be a vacuum leak
btw i hate fords too but i will never tell a customer that and direct them to dealer that just bad business
did he charge you to replace the 02 sensors ? i wouldn't pay him because he diagnose the problem wrong and put a part in that wasn't probably bad that was his mistake not yours
as far as the computer being bad i doubt it bad if only code coming up is the 02 sensors

far as replace the computer with a used one yes you can but depending on year of car computer might need to be reprogrammed
my best advice for you is to take it to a Mechanic that knows what there doing and find out what the real problem is

We have a 2005 Pathfinder. We have had problems with the heat since we purchased it. It's always the same thing - intermittent heat. The dealer keeps charging us and bleeding the system but it's an...

this is an unfortunaty problem with the pathfinder with the rear heat, but this is what you can do and it will be alot cheaper. cut out the sections that are leaking, which are the 2 places where the rear pipes are held together with a piece of rubber and plastic zip ties and splice in a section of heater hose and hose clamp it . i have fixed one like that because the people had limited funds and that was all they could afford and it has been fine for few years. i beleive it cost them about 250.

We have an engine oil leak that the Dealer says he needs to pull the engine to fix it - They estimate upto $ 3000 to fix it. Do you have any information about this.

your first mistake is going to a dealer to have work done. they always charge a buttload for work, to make up for lost revenue throughout the year.
but yes, replacing some gaskets can get costly. oil pan gaskets, head gaskets, main seals. and sometimes you need to remove the engine to fix it

A dealer has diagnosed our mini-van with a bad bearing in the AC compressor, and says it'll cost $ 1000.00 to replace !!! Can I get an after market or by-pass??? It is a 4 cylinder and they say that is a...

If your compressor is bad it needs to be replaced. You have several different options. 1. Run to a local auto parts store, buy a new compressor and have someone install and refill your system. 2. Buy a used compressor from a salvage yard have it installed for cheaper but more likely to go out faster. 3. Keep going to the dealer who will more then likely go to the same auto parts store buy the same part and increase the price on your invoice then charge you more per hour to install it then the local mechanic that's a block away. 4. The local mechanic might be able to put a smaller belt on and bypass your ac compressor. Putting the smaller belt on doesn't always work. Only on some vechiles. And on a personal note, if that dealership wants a $1000 for this job, I would consider that highway robbery!

02 saturn timing belt and plug replacement cost berkeley ca dealership is tring to rip off my son

Check out this site and it will give you an idea of what he should expect to pay: http://repairpal.com/ if he can find a local mechanic that he can trust it should be quite a bit cheaper than the dealer. On this website just put in his zip code, make, year, model of vehicle and then what he needs to get fixed and it will give you a range of what he should expect to pay. It should normally fall in the middle to lower part of that range at a local mechanic where the dealer is always at the highest point. Let me know if you have questions about the site. What does an orange engine outline light on the

It can mean many things. Problem is, its always stupid stuff like exhaust leak, fuel cap, o2 sensor etc. As a 26 yr Dodge mechanic, its a way for people to keep bring in thier car to keep dealershiips in business for service calls. As long as the car runs fine, dont waste your money on getting codes read or someone ripping you off on replacing parts. Another light will come on if something major is wrong. Such as check engine, oil, airbag, ABS brake lights. If ya just want to be sure (and waste money) goto a small garage and have the code read for $40 and post your codes and ask someone what it really means, thats if ya dont trust your mechanic. A dealer charges $75 and up. As a final note: talk to your friends, family, and neighbors for a trustworth non-dealer mechanic. It will save ya tons of cash in the long run.

Oil Leak

My sons 01 Aurora kept saying low oil, but there was no leak and we had the oil changed the day before. After looking in the owners manual, this car takes 7 1/2 quarts of oil when you change the oil and put in a new oil filter. The mechanic claimed he put 5 quarts in and checked it but he couldn't of. Over a week and hundreds of miles later the oil hasn't dropped at all!
