I NEED TO REPLACE THE DRIVE BELT ON A 2009 RZT 50. IT CANNOT BE DONE THE WAY THE MANUAL SAY'S. IN ORDER TO DO IT THE CLUTCH FOR THE DECK DRIVE MUST COME OFF. WHEN I TRY TO REMOVE THE BOLT HOLDING THE CLUTCH TO THE DRIVE SHAFT, THE DRIVE SHAFT JUST TURNS. THE ONLY WAY I CAN SEE TO LOCK OUT THE DRIVE SHAFT IS TO GRASP A WASHER WITH TWO STRAIGHT EDGES ON IT BUT CAN'T GET A GRIP. WHAT TOOL DO I NEED?
A impact wrench will do the job in 2 seconds.
On top of the engine is a plastic screen that pops off and you can hold the nut on the top of the crankshaft. I normally put a 6 inch long boxed in wrench on the 5/8 inch clutch bolt and hit it with a hammer 4 or 5 times and the shock will over come the problem. But the wire unpluggs right at the clutch to move the drive belt over the clutch. Mine is the RZT 42 but cant think there would be much difference. The spring loaded arm for the drive belt tension has a 3/8 inch drive square hole in it , from underneath you can use a ratchet and extension to over come the spring to install.
