Question about AEG U7101-4 Electric Double Oven

1 Answer

Not heating up

Hi, Hope you can help.... I turned on the above oven yesterday and it caused the RCD to trip. I have since reset this and everything comes on but when I try either the top or bottom oven, the heat will not go above 100 degrees.

Any ideas?

    Hi,

I have replaced the element and it worked fine!  Many thanks.
AEG/Electrolux wanted £45 plus P&P for this item, but I found it cheaper on Currys Parts Finder for only £32 plus P&P.

For anyone else reading this, the AEG competence double oven has 5 elements in total.  One underneath each oven which helps with the self cleaning, 1 grill element in each and in the main oven the element can be found from the inside by removing the panel at the back of the inside of the oven where the fan is.  Of course, you will still need to remove the back of the Unit to access wires.  Very easy to replace, took around 20mins.

The old element showed clear signs that it was breaking down, one of the rings appeared to be swollen in parts.

    Again, many thanks!

Hi.

I suspect you may have a faulty oven element, which is breaking down as it gets hotter, disconnect element and try if ,if it does not trip, then element is faulty

The elements in ovens consist of an outer earthed metal tube and an inner resistive element that is insulated from the outer tube by what is effectively a compressed ceramic insulating powder. If the element is not used for a while, enough atmospheric moisture, (or from spills, etc), can penetrate the insulation to cause enough earth leakage to trip the RCD. If the RCD is tripping at the correct level, (They can get too sensitive - see this article here:
Diagnosing RCD earth leakage breaker nuisance trips), then the only long term solution is to replace the element, although they can sometimes be dried out by heating them.

Why does my Candy oven Model FPP 406/1x trip the RCD in my fuse box after 3 minits warming up?

as an appliance engineer sometimes the oven element can be at fault, although this always the case, it could be the thermostat also as they are both interplay when the oven is heating up, they could both be tripping the RCD as the earth is detecting that electricity is becoming live due to a component leaking electricity.
you could try replacing both of them with caution (turning the electricity off in the house ect.. using safety equipment)

a good site to use for those components is the following;

Spare Parts Accessories for Electrical Appliances QuickSpares

usually if they don't have the item in stock on the website you can use the contact option and they usually respond pretty quickly and let you know if they can get the item ( most likely )

Oven not producing any heat

just the oven? then more than likely the element. if the stove eyes are not working as well, then your looking more at a sensor, thermostat, fuse, breaker, etc. almost always an element though

Everything is fine when i first switcj on the oven

ok that means the oven has a faulty element that shorts when heating up. have all the elements checked one by one eg by eleminating them one by one when you put them on

Oven not working - rest of appliance fine

It is most likely that the oven heating element has failed and will need to be replaced.

This not an overly expensive part to have replaced and should be much less than the cost of buying a new oven although you would need to compare actual costs in your area.

Hi there, The cooker trips the fusebox rcd,I have checked for s/c's between l,n,e, but found none. The rcd trips after you set the clock and turn the main controller to any postion,ie oven light only, or...

It is quite possible that it is the oven or grill element that is causing the problem.
You need to test them with a meter, to determine if they are o/k.
If you have no meter, then disconnect each one in turn, and try it again, this should isolate the problem.
Hope this helps you.
