There is an obstruction blocking the path of the cartridge service station.

Clear any obstruction and press the OK button to continue.

it also gets stuck up if there is a paper jam in the printer.

1 Turn off the printer, then

    unplug it from the power

2 Remove the rear access door from the back of the printer

    and remove the jammed

    3.then ON the printer.

Hey dude,

I had this problem with an HP Photosmart 7760 (was getting the message:Cartridge Service Station is stuck.. Press OK.
I followed your suggestion. Except instead of purple covered opening, I just found an opening that exposed a white gear. I turned it as far as I could. Then replaced all plugs, inserted paper, turned on printer......
And presto!! It printed some last item sitting in the buffer and is now working perfectly.

If it will not resolve, We wld start from the bsics :-

. Turn the computer off and unplug the power cord from the back of the
2. If the printer is connected to the computer, unplug the USB cable from the
back of the printer.
3. Remove any paper from the paper tray.
4. Tilt the printer up so that it rest on its back and the bottom of the printer
faces you.
5. Locate the access hole on the right side of the bottom of the printer.
The access hole may have a purple cover.
6. Remove the cover by turning it counter clockwise.
7. Roll the white gear downwards until it stops.
8. Plug the power cable and USB cable back into the back of the printer.
9. Press the power button to turn the printer back on.
10. If the print cartridges are not installed, install them now........

Why can't I find the ink level of my HP 7960 printer the way I did with Windows XP?

The ink levels are a feature of the HP software. What probably happened is that when you had WIN XP you loaded the entire software package which included the ink level utility and with WIN 7 you may have only loaded the basic drivers which does not provide this capability. Check the HP support site for a full software package and see if that brings it back.

I have a 7960 photosmart printer when i turn it on it goes to a screen which states" Cartridge service is stuck press ok" Ive taken out all jammed paper removed back panel saw no additional paper. it also...

the automatic cartridges cleaning is stuck, probably a mechanism dead or maybe a bit a dirt from ink splash. open it and try to clean it and check for any weird thing, you can do some cleaning but the mechanism need some greassy spot so do not be too clean. Cleaning with water.
There is also a thin small plastic band as long as the printer that the printer head use as guide, It's like a scale but transparent. Clean that one too. Try to run it when the printer is open, you will have to puch some button to make it run. you might see where the problem come from...

HP PhotoSmart 7960 InkJet Printer

Make sure the cover that holds the ink cartridge in place is completely closed down on the cartridge. Also make sure there is not a pencil or something under the cover where the ink is , obstructing the print head
