Question about Computers & Internet

My computer goes off suddenly.

My computer has windows xp sp2. for last few days there had been messages about fan speed too low . so i tried fixing the processor fan . threafter i found power supply fan too not working properly . i fixed this problem also. but the problem persisted in other way i mean one of the fans ( processor , power supply or chipset) made lot of noise while booting and computer goes off suddenly. if i try booting number of times then after two or three tries it starts but while running for a while it suddenly goes off . i watched all the three fans while booting they all are working ( not running sluggishly) so i feel cooling must not be the problem now. i want to know where the problem lies?

    hi pankaj,

Have an assembled desktop that i have been using fro the last 3 -4 years. the config is as follows: 1.8 ghz p 4, intel 845 chipset mb, 1 gb ram and 80 gb hdd, Windows XP. sp2.
The fan is also making a lot of noise, and suddenly during regular use the monitor goes, off. If it does come back on without re-sarting the machine then it has changed resolution. Its a regular CRT monitor of 17".

Also please note that the system is not getting started properly since it take multiple tries on the switch to turn it on.

Let me know whether its a good idea to change the system altogether or just the monitor.

    Cheers
    Lalla

PC - dies no power, but comes to life after a few days if left unplugged. Then it works and at somepoint dies again (no fans, power, etc) How do I fix?

My first thought would be that it is a power supply problem. But, before replacing the power supply, unplug the power cord from computer and wall plug, plug it in a gain making sure it goes in all the way.
If still flaky, its probably a power supply problem.
Hope it helps.

Fan slow down and them high speed

change the fan ASAP, since the zooming noise and the slow performance will affect even the processor and you might end up replacing the processor as well if it persists. So get the fan ASAP and problem will be solved.

What is the error message? The CPUs will not overclock on there own, that requires configuration. Some components when not installed properly with cause the computer to boot to a black screen and the fan to speed up dramatically. I've seen memory sticks and display port cables cause this. Check all your hardware and make sure everything is seated properly.

Our fan is constantly running now for the last last 3 days when our computer is on. We have the computer on all day and shut it down at night. It is louder than normal. Why is this and can it be fixed. ...

Its not a problem if you have the computer running all day long. Get an additional fan for your computer. An additional fan will reduce the noise as more fans running at low speed produce low sound that a single fan at high speeds. Make sure that the CPU is free from dust. More the DUST, higher the heat and higher the noise.

Runnung windows XP SP2 - 2 or 3 minutes after booting up my computer goes to the ''blue screen of death'' and displays the following error code. stop: 0x000000F4 (0x0000003, 0x85D1F7B8, 0x85D1F92C,...

Unplug all the components plugged to the computer after 2-5 mins you can plug them back and then try to press F8 on start up, select Last known good configuration, and turn press enter. If it works fine, if not then turn off again and then press F8 on startup go to safe mode and then try to do system restore. ( start - all programs - accessories - system tools - system restore ) select a date before the day when the problem started. It will not effect yous saved files, and will help you to fix your problem.

Problems when installing sp2 on my dell 4400

Reboot and keep tapping on F8 into Safe Mode. You can select "Last known good configuration" or continue In safe mode and do a system restore to the day before you installed the SP3. To do a system restore, go to Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System restore. Windows XP SP3 has some issues with certain programs giving the blue screen of death.
