Don't waste your time.It is having a problem with the unit, go fix it or forget.Nothing to do with an update on a firmware! If there is a problem with the firmware for this unit, you wouldn't even have a chance to burn any information on it,period!
Go to best buy and get a new unit, price is cheap now!!

It is hard enough to repair these units in person let alone unseen.....
two possibilities....

1) Defective DVD drive ***'y
2) Return this unit to a Panasonic Dealer and request a firmware upgrade

Since your player still works on factory recorded DVDs ?? ..a firmware update should solve this prob. Only a Panasonic dealer will have the right procedure.

Hmmm......Thought this was the fixit place, not the throw it away and get a new one place ??????
Do what you want......you are going to anyway....
I repair these for this problem daily . Often 5 or more, some even under warranty as I do that also. 99% are for finalizing problems and 99% of those are solved with the latest firmware.

Recording Error, Can not record on this disc, E 4 54040990 Just trying to record from TV on a Memorex DVD+RW. Keep getting this error. Any ideas?

Recently started getting the same error message. I thought it was because I was getting to close to full or something that was trying to over fill the discs. Have tried EP and LP and this just started when I had a disc set to record to the end. I can't even open that one or finalize it. The rest do the same. They are working fine and when the error comes up, ZAP the disc is dead, no access.

I also tried putting the same disc into another Magnavox DVD recorder, still no access. These are both the most reliable recorders I've ever owned and I've had a number.

magnavox error message dvd "e 6 2a031000 can not record on this disc."

I suspect at this point, a batch of cheap Nexxtech DVDs. Also it's possible that it's a heat problem with the recorder? Once the disc goes into error mode, it's unreadable and all recordings that haven't been written to the TOC become invisible, but that time is forever lost on the DVD.

DVD is visibly (looking at recording surface) FULL but the supposed record time isn't used up. Data error. Discs reporting wrong size. Try a different brand of DVD.

Unit cant recoginze/ read a disk

Randy,

I had a dvd-r disc recorded from a Philips dvd recorder that had not yet been finalized when the Philips went bezerk and died. I replaced it with the Sony GX300 and just for an experiment, tried to finalize it in the Sony

It worked. Not to say that it has to work with only THIS combination of the 2 same dvd recorders or twisting the scenario around with the Sony doing the recording and the Philips doing the finalizing. I also have a Sony dvd/vcr recorder to compliment the GX300. I will have to record a disc on the GX300 and try to finalize it with the combo unit to see if it will do well as a back up.

Right now a disc that is not full yet (home movie from my kids birth) is reading "Disc Error" on the GX300. I may have to do it over or see if the combo unit will do the same finalizing as the GX300. It doesn't have the amount of features that the GX300 has but thats what you get with a combo unit vs. a stand alone recorder/player.

If you know someone with another recorder, try to finalize on it. If not , you could find someone on this sight that has a GX300 and mail the discs plus a smalll fee and have them mailed back. Or you could find a used one cheap at some store and return it if it doesn't finalize.

Good luck

Vcr/dvd when can i finalize my disc iam recording i have a magnavox combo before i starte or after tapeing

Finalizing means that you're finished and you won't be putting anything else on the disc. Finalize it after you're done so it will play on other DVD players. If you have a rewriteable DVD, then you can go back and erase it and record over it later even though you've finalized it. If you have a -R or +R only, then you can't and whatever is on it when you finalize it will be on it forever..

Can not get the 'Finalize Disc' option on the

Do not worry about no Finalize Disk option. You may have it under another guise.
A recording session can be specofied as open ( Default ), or closed. If closed DATA cannot be appended to the disk.
No matter how many sessions have been written, if the last session is closed no more can be written. Your software automatically finalizes each session, in fact must.

DVD will not finalize

I have found that any disc faster than 4X will not finalize. 8x disc will record but not finalize. 16X disc will not even record. I haven't been able to find any D VD+R 4X. 4X disc work fine and will finalize if you can find any.

You need to finalize the disc u recorded in order to play on other dvd's. press setup, press disc, press finalize then press yes. Finalization will start, this may take some time depending on the amount to be finalized. Be patient. Good luck.

Panasonic DMR-ES30V

I have three Panasonic DVD recorder/Vhs combos and I get the same problem from time to time...it may be the disks you are using.  Mine absolutely hate Sony disks.  I have the best luck with TDK or Maxell.  You also must clean your unit frequently, if you do alot of recording.  I use my units daily.

Hope this helps
